Since I have involved myself in physical fitness five years ago I have notice a transformation of my physical being way beyond what I looked like then. Now I'm looking more like my friend PettyOfficer in upper body. At six feet four inches tall I feel energized unlike I was back then when I weighed nearly 290 lbs. My weigh has stablized to around 240 Lbs. The benefits from weight lifting, flexibility traing and cardio fitness is evident as the total package. I feel as a human being that everyday is a discovery. A balanced diet, plenty of rest and exercise consistency has made a huge difference. Have you notice any changes in yourself in your programs. Please share them here.

    Congrats!
Dont you have a newborn?? How do you get plenty of rest?
    :)

I have worked out all my life but it was mediocre the last few years, I amped it up this past winter and see a huge difference.
The biggest is probably mental. Im happier, more energetic, sleep like a baby and am more resistant to stress. I acctually think my skin look better too.

Bro, at first it was not easy, but once you established that routine as you know perfectly the rest as they say is history. You are right it is definately 80% mental and 20% physical. It was worth it all the way. Bro do you think getting a certification as a physical trainer is the way to go on the side? I have heard depending on where you are it could bring in a lot of money for you.

Yes, the boy is eating me out of house and home. Just kidding. He does eat a lot. He keeps us up at night. I have learn to change diapers and make the formula. I try to take as much of the load off the wife. I love every minute of it. I'm considering on posting some pictures here. When I do I will post them exclusively to you and Lipstick. Getting rest for me is improvising. I love to use my rocking chair in the incline with my son while watching television. We fall to sleep together. I have so many plans for him. For the next twenty years he will be my project of love and joy in his development. Thanks for asking. Take care.

the thought has crossed my mind before. I never acted on it, but with the amount of free time I have, I could be putting my mind to good use. I've been doing this faithfully for 14 years. the main thing I tell people that approach me about fitness now, is that it all starts with the mind. Sure you see the physical results, but those results are just a product of good mental discipline. My football coach used to tell us that football was more mental, than it was physical, and it's the truth. You subject your body to conditions most people would not, for a specific purpose. It's so easy to just give up and that's where the mind comes in. That's what gives you the drive to move those weights or run the field.

I know, I sound like an actor in a worn-out sports movie, but those movies are just another example of art, imitating what people learn through life.

So true, as I have found in the martial arts and physical fitness, mental preparation and implementing action is the foundation upon which we develop ourselves. The mental exercise of visualization and concerted breathing must be required for physical health, and fitness. I'm happy to see that in this country it is only beginnig to be understood and is becoming a necessary action for personal development.

yeah the eastern philsophies are reaching us and becoming more accepted. From the bow and demonstrations of piety some martial artists do before a fight, in the ever popular UFC events; to the meditation practices unversity instructors and corporate advisors pass off to people under their tutelage. I've been witness to all of these acts, the later two firsthand. Growing up in TKD, i was exposed to this environment before, so these practices were not new. We were privileged to experience the traditions of other cultures, but others are now just seeing the benefits of it.

i started running again consistently in the second half of the summer. gettin up with the sun since the heat is so oppressive. it's definitely a mental charge and cranks up my physical energy/stamina. also boosts my patience when dealing with others. makes me a lil sad that the cold will be back in 3 months and force me back inside on the treadmill. i need to move somewhere that has temperatures in the 70s year round. (and affordable) lol

nothing replaces running and the confidence boost you get from it...although good sessions on my recumbent bike have been rewarding. I have days where I'll focus on all-out bike sprints, then I have days where I'll go for the hill. I mainly use the cardio to fine tune things, as i'm not really looking to be an endurance athlete. Cardio is definitely mental, lol, especially if you're focusing on size and strength, rather than wind.

Yes, my confidence in myself and abilities are higher than in the distant past. As far as the ladies are concern, I have one woman and a child, that is all I'm concern about.

hey PO, can you recommend a good powder or pill that is great for rebuilding muscle tissue? i've been gettin charlie horses a lot recently and thinkin i need more vitamins/minerals for recovery. i stretch and junk post-run, so that's not the issue.

Adventur I run year round. Our winters are probably milder though. In the winter I just wear Nike cold weather stuff. I have running tights, hoodie and gloves that are thin but fleece lined. It's not too cumbersome but stil warm.

I change to go in the afternoon too. I prefer to run in the morning. Changing your time of day kind of messes with your commitment though when you get used to a routine.

RE your charlie horses if I start gettting foot cramps I eat more bananas to up my potassium. But petty is the supreme supplement guru he will tell you.
