Is it me or does this commercial have a racial undertone?

Why, because there were no minorities in the commercial??

I didn't think much of the commercial, even when considering the symbolism and narrative presented.

I think that calling it mildly racist would be quite an assumption to make.

Thats why I said maybe its just me. I think growing up in NYC has made me very race conscious. So i question things alot. The only guy who has a darker appearance is kneeling down look at white people. Some of the scenes seem elitist in some way. It gives off a latin american style with hinting White=Upper class

Well, the intent of the commercial was to celebrate the comradery amongst Latino men seeking success and wealth.

I did pick that up, but I didn't find it to be racist, considering the origins of the alcohol advertised.

Don't get me wrong though. I loved some aspects like you said. Comradery and seeking success and wealth. Also the background music i will put on my Ipod.
Scotland is the origin. Don't know what to make of that

I assumed that the liquor 'Chivas' had latin origins.

    My mistake on that.

But the narrator had a British accent!!

I didn't get anything too race specific from that commercial at all except that it's populated by mostly caucasions ( thought I saw a light skinned brotha and an asian!), and I don't see the Latin angle.

Just because a commercial isn't overflowing with colored folk doesn't mean there is a racist overtone about the message.

Some of you act like White folks are an abstract concept.

Hint...MOST WHITE PEOPLE don't know ANY people of color among their social acquaintances, beyond a handful. That includes Black people.

So if the creator of this ad comes from that type of experience, why would you see 'racism' in his commercial??

lets just prevent any future commericals, where a black guy is kneeling, joking, eating chicken, dancing, or anything else to prevent coonery or racism.

we're going to be a sterile people for now on

    :p
