A few nights ago, we were watching "40 year old virgin" on TV: Every single 4 letter word was bleeped but the "N" word is all over the place -not bleeped. wtf???? :smt102
I was watching it, too. It was on the USA network, I believe. I was thinking the same thing. Why didn't they bleep out "n**a"? Who makes that call on what's considered 'acceptable' and 'explicit'?
there is a black guy who Steve works with..the one who pressures him to get some pussy. as for the N word...seriously? the Chappelle Show always got away with using it, and that was on a regular network like USA also. I would think in general, people just arent as offended by it as they used to be and yes, this will be a long-ass thread /facepalm
Im not one that will say bleep the N word all the time... BUT be consistent within the movies etc. If your bleeping fuck and shit etc in one movie -shouldnt the N word also be bleeped in it? It was just weird.. bleep bleep bleep N...., bleep, bleep, bleep, N..... LA, your right, it was USA
you're under the impression that people view 'nigga,' as a bad word. When it's being used by a black person, it's not carrying the same racial implications as when used by a non-black person, used to offend a race of people. Fuck and shit on the other hand, are just bad words regardless of who uses it. like i said before, i think people are easing up on severity of the slang-version of the word. 'Nigger,' on the other hand...
The n word was never blepped out until recently. All in the family and SNL and a number of shows in the seventies including Roots used the N-word. The popularity of the word among the hip hop generation has muddled the context and usage of the word, so now we (and TV programmers) are parsing it's usage and intent more, especially when non Black people are not admonished and say Nigga without compunction.
Did a black person say it? I have noticed this on the boondocks. I thought it was because black people said it so they didn't censor it which is wrong to be honest.
