This is the shit that pisses me off! Straight up nigger shit. Karma's right, this is ALL Black people will support because it's coonery. You know your run of the mill negroes loves them some coonery! Black audiences hate Fred Willaimson films, but love this dumb-ass coon shit! :smt071

Soul Plane and movies alike are a modern day form of Blaxploitation.

The so-called blaxploitation films of that era are simply action films with black leads. Most people don't know the story of that term.

The 70s were about Blacks establishing ourselves in society, politics, arts, films, etc... After the stupid shit we went through the beginning of time, it was our chance to make a mark in arts and entertainment. We could and should have grown since then, but we have NOT.

    Time for another history lesson...

The films of the 1970s have been UNFAIRLY labeled as "blaxploitation" for one reason...one man's bitterness.

There was a film about a dope pusher named Priest (who wanted to get out of the game). This film would have been Oscar worthy for sure. The cast and performances were stellar and superb. And the film is a good film. However it had been plagued by controversy which would tarnish the entire Black film movement...

Would Truck Turner, Blackbelt Jones, Cleopatra Jones, etc. be labeled as blaxploitation? Those were some good films and I wouldn't think it would be put in the same category as a film with a lowriding plane.

In preparation for promotion and the films release, there was a man named Junius Griffin (a prototype of today's Egg-headed Intellectual Negro), was the president of the Beverly Hills chapter of the NAACP. He had also been working on the side as a press agent. He tried to open an account with Warner Brothers to handle promotion for this film. However Griffin didn't get the account for reasons still unknown (rumor has it that he and the film's producer Sig Shore got into a falling out)...

You mean to tell me "Boss Nigger" isn't blaxploitation??

    I would have to disagree.

Yes and No. I'm on my way to explain that. I love those films because it gave us a chance to play more honorable roles than the coons, mammys, maids and butlers.

Low budget, yes, but still a good film. I'm still explaining as it seems that the new jacks are ignorant of Black Film History.

I watched that film and I thought it was horrible.

I saw nothing positive in that movie.

I found it to be a mockery to black people.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this.

That film that was released by Warners was Superfly. Griffin was pissed because he didn't get the account from WB to promote the film. So, what does he do in retaliation?

He begins to badmouth the film. He calls it "Black Exploitation". He goest to the press and makes scenes out of his jealousy and bitterness. He forms a group called "Coalition Against Blaxploitation". Thus the NAACP, Jesse Jerkson, C.O.R.E., National Urban League and other sambo civil rights groups begin to badmouth and demean a whole film movement that was about empowerment.

Yes, there were some shitty movies made because people will always try to make a quick buck and the cookie cutter process. But there was plenty of potential for Black artists and filmmakers to grow, but didn't...

That's your opinion. It was a parody of Spaghetti westerns (granted Williamson and Martin were like the only two Blacks in the film) and an action film.

Agreed to disagree, but I'm sure you would rather watch any of Tyler Perry's epics.

For some reason, black people don't like action films.

Actually, I don't like any of Tyler Perry's films.

    Don't assume.

Not to mention, action films are some of my favorite movies to watch.

I apologize, I let my bias get me. Just as a whole, Black audiences are simple minded and don't know anything other than coonery.

BTW, the Black actors of the 70s all hate that term "Blaxploitation".

Here's the documentary from David Walker on the subject...

There are other factors involved in the stunt of growth of Black films of that era as well.

If the movie is as good as the soundtrack, I'll have to watch it.

I haven't seen this movie, but it's regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. This clip says it all:
