What's considered Black or White on this board?

I see pictures of biracial men and their white wives. I also see pictures of Nick Cannon and Mariah who is biracial. Yet, no one talks about Alicia Keys and her fiance. I also get the sense that people consider Halle Berry black. There are also pictures of black men with Latina women. Is it just about black men and anyone who isn't "black looking"? Is it more about the way someone looks? I'm just asking out of curiosity.

    Thanks :)

There's individual and societal definitions. I respect individual decisions but also post according to American societal definitions. With regards to the family thread, it's also cultural association, which is why I post Jason Kidd and not Slash...etc. It's also my individual discretion of phenotype equaling race (the way someone looks) and cultural association, like I would post Jeter and his white wife and kid, but not Grady Sizemore or Wenthworth Miller's.

I got called out for Jessica Alba and her Cash Warren, which is fine, since they blur the Black and White visual of race, and that's fine, and I no longer post them, other's can post according to their view, it's not an exact "science" despite what racialist might tell you. What has been considered Black or White in this U.S is a nuanced issue, I acknowledge that legacy without directly adhering to or believing in hypodescent or the ODR, just like I acknowledge obviously mixed Latino's/Hispanics who claim to be White, as such.

You are white if you are 100% white.
You are black if you are 100% black.
I hope that answers your question.

Maybe on this board, but lets be realistic in the USA we live by the one drop rule.

What I said is realistic, it is just people have trouble accepting reality. I'm not talking about you about the last sentence.

In the US, if you're 1/8th or less of black, you're not black. Anymore than that and you are black.

Once you mix, you can't unmix. But I know about the one drop of blood rule. It really has to be changed.

Well, in the US, according to some people's perception, you can't have any black mix in you to earn your 'White Pass'.

Haiti is a little reverse of the usa. In haiti, If you aren't 100% black they'll call you blan(sp). That is at least in the section I was. Of course, blan means foreigner as well.

Haiti is a Black vs. Mulatto society dating back from Independence. I would be classified as Mulatto not because of my skin tone(even though I white ancestry from both sides of my family) but because of my money. I am ballin' when I go to Haiti.

I hate to side track this but I hear wyclef is going to run for president. Preval is term limited. What do you think? I have serious doubts of a musician becaming a president. He has no experience but if he does good. I'll be the first on the boat to happily say I was wrong.

I have to disagree. Not everyone is is 100% whatever, yet they still have to check a classification, especially here in the U.S.

Never put much thought into it. If they want to be called black, I'll call them black, and if they wanna be called white, I'll call them white.

But sometimes, I don't know what the hell to call somebody. I have a friend who is Hispanic/Islander/white and he likes to be white when it's convenient for him. When he's making black jokes, he's white, but when our other white friends do some stupid shit, he goes "that's them white folks". I just call him white, even though he's only quarter white, but he seems to be proudest of that, so yeah.

I find it interresting that according to some, you are not white if you have one drop black blood, and yet - to some, your not black if you have one drop white blood. Clearly both sides will never agree....and to me, it seems its getting worse, not better.

I heard this also. I think that Wyclef is seriously going to announce his bid. He's famous and has money. He has a great chance of winning. All that he has done to bring attention to the country. His Yele organization doing positive things, etc. Now, can he actually run the Nation itself. We'll see down the road. Ronald Reagen was Actor, so why cant Wyclef be President. Although Haiti's situation is far different than U.S. obviously. I dont think we'll have to worry about corruption with him though. I want to believe that he'll do good Arch. But I honestly don't believe Haiti can sustain growth with all internal forces(basically the six wealthy families that control Haiti's wealth) and external forces(U.S., France, Canada) against it. It hurts me the most when I see all the bad things that happen to this country.

A good forum for Discussion about The Island is Haitixchange.com, but beware of all the Dominican Trolls

I didn't really say that everyone is 100% black or white. I was just giving a definition of what is considered black or white. If you have a mixture of the two or asian then you are mixed which is perfectly fine. The USA has a crazy way of defining it due to slavery and certain people not wanting to take in reality.

I feel you! I label people as I see fit. If I'm wrong, they can correct me or I'll correct myself.

Ok I am going to ask you what I wanted to ask you in private. Do you think a person with a B.A. in chem could get a job if they needed it in the chemistry industry? I don't want to do research for a B.S. because it would take up too much of my time.
