You're right. Books can get so detailed! People who don't like to read are missing out!

I'm not famaliar with that book/movie. What's it about?

The Stand was the 1st book I read by Stephen King. I've read at least 20 of his books since then. Most of the books turned into movies were terrible except for a few (IMO:)

    Salem's Lot
    Christine
    The Shining
    Pet Semetary

The rest of the movies were garbage...lol

I haven't read the LOTR books, but those movies were EXCELLENT! I can only imagine how good the books were! *

Oh yeah, The Shining was a GREAT movie, too. I saw Christine, but I wasn't really a fan of that book. I need to read his older books again. It's been so long and I loved so many of them: Cujo, The Shining, It, Pet Semetary, The Stand (is one of my all-time favorite books), the Dark Tower series, man I loved his older books.

The LOTR books are amazing. Though they're so bogged down with characters and details, I actually had to put the 3rd one down for about 6 months because I couldn't take it anymore. LOL. I highly recommend those books and the movies were an amazing tribute to the books. I am in awe of Peter Jackson for making such great films out of those books.

I read The Hobbit in like 3 days (which is a record for me). You should start with that one, if you're going to read the LOTR trilogy. :smt023

I'm not the scary type, but IT had me checkin over my shoulder! Pennywise was something else! Lol

The last 50 pages of Pet Semetary were intense! I was on the edge of my seat!* *

I forgot about The Hobbit. I read that back in grammer school. That was a good book too.

I'm gonna have to check out LOTR!

I read all of those books when I was like 10-12 years old. I'd stay up late reading them, and then after I turned off the light, I'd hear the house settling and it sounded like someone was slowing creeping up our stairs. It's scared the bejesus out of me, but I wouldn't trade those memories for anything! LOL.

Those books were scary as hell!

I have similar memories of reading Pet Semetary.. I remeber the ending as a blood pressure challenger.... I think it was my first scary book I read and I was sold.

Yes Cannon - the LOTR's are fatastic! I think they did a spectacular job, lots of things from the books arent in the movies but thats ok, you cant get everything in and it is really fantastic!

The Power Of One is an epic novel by Bryce Courtenay about a young boy growing up in South Africa. Its sequel Tandia is just as epic! They're both must-reads. Highly recommended!

Yep, I read all of those books at that age. I don't know what I was thinking. LOL.

I have a friend whose parents wouldn't let her read those books or see movies like "Dirty Dancing" when she was a teenager. I'm glad my parents weren't like that. I felt a little more prepared for the realities of life as I grew up. LOL.

I read Gerald's Game. I didn't particularly like it. Let me know what you think!!

Oh ok! That reminds me. I read the book Kaffir Boy years ago. It was about another boy growing up in South Africa and it was really good.

So you suggest I check these out too?

english lad grows up in Africa before the second big war.

He gets hassled earlier on for being English, but I bet after the British victories in N. Africa he got some respect then.

Gerald's Game = disturbing! Had to read it intermittently but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

That's a great book. Did you by any chance read Mathabanes' Love in Black and White as well?

Yeah! Bryce Courtenay certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy his style and his characters. These books will always be special to me.

Don't bother with the movie. I have faith they will re-make it one day and it will be EPIC!
