A wide range of music and musical genres emerged from or influenced by the culture of African-Americans. Please vote for your favorite type of African-American music that you like and listen to.

You can post old school and modern music videos if you like.

Let's keep focus on what music you like that African-Americans created.

Early rock and roll are combined elements of R&B, blues, boogie woogie and jazz.

But it is predominately white dominated. Early rock and roll not the modern one.

Black Americans already invented Rhythm and Blues long before the term Rock and Roll came along. Before the use of the term Rock and Roll, most people called this same type of music as Rhythm and Blues. The term Rock and Roll was coined by a white DJ named Alan Freed later on.

Just like Lays, no one can eat (choose) just one...

Let me see, much simpler to tell you my fav artists: BB King, Lady Day, Robert Cray, Anita Baker, Stanley Jordan, Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Gap Band/Charlie Wilson, Prince, TLC, Salt n Pepa, Commodores/Lionel Ritchie, Betty Wright, Marvin Gaye, Rick James, Maxwell, Sade, Barry White, John Legend, Janet Jackson, Ne-Yo, Lenny Kravitz, Jazmin Sullivan, En Vogue, D'Angelo. Sorry all, I got on a roll & couldn't stop myself. This are my top favs, not in any particular order. There are many, many more but thought it best to restrain myself a bit.:D (disclaimer, yes I know Sade is not American - but it's my list)

Rock and roll would be classified under rhythm and blues option in the poll.

Elvis was a frequent visitor of Black bars and nightclubs. He duplicated the styles and sometimes the fashion of the Black male performers.

Well Blacks for the most part don't listen to rock & roll anymore do they? So it's white music by default.

Message board parsing and arguing is so sexy.
