Google Blaxploitation/NAACP/Junius Griffith. They called those films Blaxploitation, but I like them as they gave Blacks the chance to be heroes on screen. Now all we get are Tyler Perry films, which are a throwback to the minstrel shows of the 1920s.

If you google Junius Griffin and Superfly, you should get the basic story...he was the head of the Beverly Hills chapter of the NAACP. He tried to open a press account with WB to promote the film...he didn't get the account and he became a vindicive SOB. He used his power and influence to demonize Superfly and formed Coalition Against Blaxploitation...a group that demonized ALL black films of that era. Problem is those movies made money. Jesse Jerkoff got in on the action as well.

Tyler Perry's films deals with the lives of Black woman whom go to see them on the first release. True,he is getting a little more mainstream but, still his core audience is mostly Black women. There are black movie but mostly they are straight to dvd flicks.

Exactly right. Tyler perry(no matter how much I don't like his movie) is a smart guy. He was able to capitalize on women(like sex in the city) and make a lot of money.

yeah, i didnt know naacp had something to do with a down fall of those movies. the movies were cheesey as with all of the movies before the mid 80's and 90's. If you had any sense all you had to do was just look at em. yet they were enjoyable. like someone stated that is all they had as far as getting jobs.

the first movie that started it all the militant movies was the van peebles movie . people called them the Blaxploitation. I didnt know NAAACP put the dagger in them tho. If the blacks hooked up (they will not) they can make real strong films. Danny Glover is trying to get financing for a movie that talks about the only slave revolt that was successful (haiti) but he cant get it done. Yet harpo and TP (toilet paper i mean tyler perry ) did precious where it made black people look like savages.

I hope he doesn't make that movie. Having a non haitian make that movie is like having a white guy making Malcolm X. He is going to ruin it for all Haitians. It isn't even filmed in Haiti. People need to stick to their own ethnicities. Danny also stole the idea from French man. That's right he got the idea from the French. The very people who were enslaving us. He is just trying to make a buck off of my ancestors. It isn't a black movie. It is going to be filmed in Venezuela by an American who got the idea from a french man. Nothing about it is real. It is going to be in English another language that is European in nature and to make it worse toutsaint had to fight the english. The cast won't know how to speak a black language at all. I bet they come in with French accents. Just hilarious.Just comes to show you how Hollywood thinking isn't restricted to just some of the white people. The black ones have the same thinking as well. Just unbelievable. He should go make a movie about Washington and stop making a buck off of my ancestors.

Im not sure where the movie is to be made. I heard that the establishment will not finance it. he has been trying for years. I hope he does make it and distribute it. The story needs to be told. the reason hollywood dont want it told because it shows BF's fighting and winning. they dont want to see that. I wish they would make a movie on one tribe from what I heard about that never been enslaved because they successfully fought them off. I say the tribe talked about on TV.

What establishment? He is the establishment! This idea was stolen from a no name guy by Danny. That's what the establishment does to the little people. He isn't filming in Haiti where Haiti could get the money. He is filming in Venezuela with his good friend hugo chavez. He is going to think of it like an American and not like a Haitian. As an American born Haitian, I can tell you there is a difference of thinking. I hope he doesn't. The story needs to be told by a Haitian and not by anyone else.
