Man, just when I was almost beginning to decry this WC are devoid of goals and action, the second round began. My oh my, what happened to The Three Lions? Here's what: they played against a better organized, determined and superior German team. Don't get me wrong, England had a more talented core of players but talent will only get you so far against a more compact and willing team; just ask the 2004 Lakers and 2010 Cavaliers. Too many England players were playing individual efforts, mainly Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Gareth Barry. The Germans, on the other hand, used the expressive flair of Schweinsteiger, Mueller, Podolski and Mesut Oezil ripped England's back four apart, the 1966-esque disallowed goal nothwithstanding. It's easy to play the "what if" game, but judging from England's 90 minute performance in its totality, they wouldn't have stood much of a chance.

We do need some goal line technology, though. This shit is getting too ridiculous.

The Ghana vs USA game was actually more competitive. Even though Ghana were the better side, the USA's defense let them down. Both goals by Boateng and Gyan were the offsprings of some atrocious defending. The Americans actually had some chances but didn't take them. And they paid the price.

The Argentina/Mexico game was the most exciting in my opinion. The scoreline does not reflect it accurately, though. The Mexicans had a number of chances to get something, but did not make a meal of their chances. Of course, that's always a tall order when you gift the Argentines a glorious chance like Osorio did for the second goal. What was that guy doing? And for heaven's sake, the offside rule needs to be enforced better. I have never seen a more clear-cut offside position than the one Carlos Tevez was in. And somehow, the goal stood.

As expected, Holland advanced to the quarter-finals. The game was decidedly an Orange affair, and should have finished at least 4-1 but for some sloppy finishing by Van Persie and Kuyt. Arjen Robben stood out as the Man of the Match. He set the pace for the Dutch attack, and was consistent enough to stretch the Slovakian defense.

Watch out, rest of the teams.

With no instant replays that type of foolishness will continue.

It's astonishing that Holland won against Brazil. Also it is not surprising about Uruguay since they won the first World Cup 80 years ago.

Germany won 4-0 against Argentina. My goodness I think they could win the World Cup. Maradona's trash talk helped. It was a Teutonic steamroller.

The steamroller has stopped with Germany losing 1-0 to Spain. All because the rep got rid of one of the players. Hope the Orangemen beat Spain this weekend.

So it's down to NL & ESP this coming Sunday.

I'm kinda torn between who to support....kinda..

Espana : 'Cause I dated a hand model gal whilst on holidays in London (Circa late 20th century)

    Nederlands : 'Cause I dated 2 gals in Amsterdam (Circa 1990 & 1992)

I think I wanna go with Nederland by a margin.

Otherwise, let the chips fall where they may.
