Meaning adopted into a family of a different race. I was adopted at 9 into a caucasian family which essentially changed my life forever. I was just curious if there is anyone else who possess the same experience.

    Well, kinda....

My Mum was White & my Dad was Black (God Rest Their Souls)....

Similar to *your* heritage, there *is* (In most cases, IMO) abit of a difference of a Black youth being brought up in a multiracial household...as opposed to MONOracial..

There are aspects of my current lifestyle & such that WOULD have been considerably different had both my parents been of the same race....

It's all down to the enviroment in which you are raised.

I was curious about that as well. I'm certain there are similarities that we share due to being within a multi-racial environment in comparison to just a mono-racial environment, and to be honest I wouldn't have it any other way. But I also notices some differences as well between even individuals who are born bi-racial or multi-racial, and those who are adopted. For example, I got into this debate over a woman who claim the blind side was racist because it shown that white people were saving black people, and tons of other remarks, and her grandmother was dutch. I was trying to explain to her that you
can't look through this movie through your own experience because even though your bi-racial, you can't understand the troubles of what it's like
for us who are adopted, and when I'm referring to troubles I'm talking about
what we go through with our biological parents. I for one could completely relate to Michael Oher because I had a relatively similar (if mostly worse experience) than he did. And like Michael Oher had his mom who essentially guided him, my siblings were of that role. Yet no matter how I tried to explain to her, she just couldn't seem to understand. She couldn't possess the empathy to realize what was in our shoes.

I thought it was kinda funny because often the black community seem to ask
for empathy towards the issues that they deal with, yet many of them couldn't offer the same empathy towards individuals like us who are transracially adopted. Ah well, so is life.

Well I was only a little kid when I was adopted, around 9 years old. But for one, if my sister, who was my best friend before I was adopted at that time didn't rescue me from my biological parents I wouldn't be here today lol. So how it change me is that luckily, well I'm alive haha.

Another huge aspect is that I don't negate family to just blood related ties anymore. I realize as my family was raising me that family essentially isn't the blood that runs through your veins but the bond that you establish with those
around you, so essentially my really close friends I see as family, not friends anymore. Like actual brothers and sisters. One who I share this bond with, I remember one of her friends asked if I liked her and I almost literally hurled. He was like, what she's gorgeous, what's your problem. And I told him that I see her as my sister, so to like her, in my eyes, instigates incest. He couldn't understand at first but of course after telling him past events of me being adopted, he could understand than.

There is tons more but the post is already getting long as is. But my entire life changed because of my adoption, and 200% for the better in my view.

The mod is ESPY but you wont ever see her ban the ones she likes. Its mindboggling that an ignorant troll like flaminghomo has such high rep points.

Ok I was wondering if it was the fact of them being white but it sounds like it was just the fact they got you out of a bad situation.

talk about race issues because I made thread about this before....how has affected you. My thread talked about magazines giving pros and cons about the issue. I wanted to get your POV as far as day to day living or better stated how has it affected you as it relates to your ability to relate to other blacks with "conventional" families.

Oh so you mean specifically racially? Well it definitely influence quite a few things regarding race relations and etc. Just by acceptance along, I definitely had quite a few individuals give me problems regarding me being adopted by a family of a different race. At that time, i was very surprised that the majority of them were black. Some often expected me to choose them over my family just because they were black, and my family was white. Others refuse to
acknowledge our kinship in the first place, constantly proclaiming that they
weren't my real family and etc.

So with that said, I can say I can't really relate to well to black "conventional"
families per say, because our upbring, our lifestyle, and our ways of thinking is often very different. I'm also usually at odds with the black community in
general. Like often the black community express things as problems or issues
as black problems, when in my eyes they are American problems and where
a huge issue lies is a lack of empathy from other races to gather together
and help the problems that faces within urban neighborhoods.

There is also often an issue of my friends who are black attempting to pull
me towards acting or being a certain way. I had an ex-friend even say I was
corrupted and barely possess any "black tendencies." Which essentially
in my view is just stereotypes because I don't think there is a certain way of
acting black or white, but than again I race by history standards was set
as nothing more than a social construct to keep individuals divided to help
alleviate the Anglo Americans into a sense of superiority.

I learned very quickly that race has very little to do with the connection
that you make with somebody, and nowadays I become offended that
I'm suppose to be grouped with individuals because I share a similar melanin
content. I just wanna make friends with whoever is cool, if they are cool, be it black, white, asian, hispanic, whatever, than I'm down.

If you have any specific questions, you can just let me know.
