I think staying home with your kids is awesome LS, milestones cannot be repeated and missing them breaks your heart. I enjoy the fact that I'm home all day now, and I can easily work around anything I want to do with the kids. I also worked nights when my daughter was little so she didn't spend time in day care, and I didn't really start working 65 - 70 hour weeks until they were both in school. But I've always managed to arrange it so that work didn't interfere, however a lot of that was possible because the people I've worked for were very accommodating. I generally put in about 50 hours at the office and then the other 20-30 at home in the evenings after the kids went to bed, and on weekends. Like I said it had to be done, and where there's a will there's a way.

 

Oh and dont let some of the longtime posters on here get to ya. When I started posting here a good number of them accused me of being a "sista" as well. Just post your honest opinion on things without getting the regulars too offended and it should be all good.

It's fairly common for Black Women to be known amongst their friends and peers as Ms or Miss ___[insert first name here]___ because it's a Southern American throwback.

However, that same Southern American throwback takes on a different meaning amongst American White Women when interacting with Black people. Usually, the White Woman known as Ms [insert first name here] was the slavemaster's wife.

It sets off a series of red flags for me. Usually, nice White people will avoid sounding anything like a Southern American throwback. Like, the tendency to not even refer to Black male children as "boys". You just don't like how it sounds, even if it is technically innocent. So to be so eager for Black Men to call you Ms {real first name} seems suspicious.
