My Mom felt my Dad had changed. He had. They lost a number of children in miscarriage and stillbirth and SIDS, and it changed them both. That stuff brings you together or tears you apart, and it tore them apart. They already had my brother, and still wanted one more, so they had me even tho they knew the marriage was ending. They also didn't really expect me to live, but I did.

The divorce was very amicable at first. They were really dedicated to the idea of remaining respectful, even friendly. But the divorce was very hard on them both.

Then, when my brother and later I hit puberty, they stopped being respectful and started hating each other. Now that we're both adults, they aren't friendly but they are distantly respectful. In their defense, raising two very smart teenagers, neither of whom had any respect for authority whatsoever, is probably enough to make anyone grumpy.

 

Well it sounds like you were a miracle baby. It seems like you were extremely lucky to survive especially since you said that your mother had several miscarriages. If you don't mind me asking how old was your mother when she was having all these complications, because I hear the older a woman gets the harder and more problems she will have during pregnancy?

But back to Tiger. He should have did like the mob and made Elin an offer she could not refuse. The Hudson river is full of people that refused those offers. Nah I'm joking but it would make for a good movie.

 

When they started, she was younger. By the time she had me, she was older.

From somewhere in her twenties into her mid thirties. I don't know exactly when they started, because they don't talk about it too often with me.

My living was a surprise to them. I was also the first girl in the group (ha!). My whole life, I've known my most important job was "live". I'm sure every parent feels that way about their kids, but my parents reminded me, lol.

Anyway, no more talking about me. This is weird and awkward.

 

Essentially I look at any attempt to use children, betrayal, dishonesty, or the potential to write a tell-all book as a method to up the stakes of a divorce settlement as extortion. I realize that he cheated on her with a whole bunch of women, and that is no doubt embarrassing to her, however no sum of money will erase that. I personally couldn't put a price tag on something like that. However, if he went to her and asked her what it would take for her to keep her mouth shut on the whole deal, then that's on him. As a mother, the last thing I'd want to do was make any of that public because at some point my kids would be old enough to see and understand it, and that's just something I don't think is necessary. I would never lie to my kids about something like that, but I just don't think the entire world knowing the intimate details of their parent's lives is appropriate. Also just because he's a crappy husband, doesn't mean he's not a good father, so threatening to keep him from his kids is also not appropriate.

Basically they split and she gets whatever the prenup calls for, and nothing more. Legally I don't think she could do any better than that if they had a good prenup, so I'm guessing he's offering more for reasons known only to him and the lawyers.

Well if you're talking to me Chi, I just tried to rep you right before that post and I have to spread it around too! So we'll just call it even.

And for the record, I understand your stance on one spouse having a moral obligation to ensure the other isn't destitute when they split. When my Ex left he moved in with his sister, so he wasn't homeless, but I covered his other expenses like car insurance, life insurance, etc. for 6 months after he left to give him time to adjust to paying his own bills. I didn't feel I owed him anything, but I knew he wasn't a responsible person and was going to have some trouble adjusting so I felt it needed to be done.

I feel that everyone should be able to support themselves. If you can't support yourself on your own, you shouldn't be getting into a relationship. If your marriage ends and you suddenly have financial troubles, you have nobody to blame but yourself. Enough with the alimony garbage.

And Elin gets 100 million PLUS CHILD SUPPORT. That's justice???? And I bet the child support will be like 1 million a month lol. What a joke.

 

Well child support is usually based off of a set formula, they put in number of children, his income, her income, how many nights per year each parent has the children, and it spits out a number. So he'll pay her and she obviously won't have to pay him anything. I imagine given what his income is, he'll pay a sizable amount, though the more number of overnight visits he has the children for, the less the child support should be. As a general rule, the non-custodial parent is always going to pay the custodial parent unless he/she has the children 50% of the nights out of the year.

That's all well and good. But anyone in their right mind knows she doesn't need child support if she's getting 100 million. That makes me sick. The kids will be living with a woman who has 100 million dollars in her bank account. They don't need more money every month from the man who is responsible for the 100 million dollar bank account they already have.

 

I agree that both are ridiculous, however IMO it's backwards. The child support should be sufficient, she doesn't need the 100 million settlement.

Not to digress, but my parents were married nine years and had multiple stillborn pregnancies and a daughter who died a few days after being born.
