    Agreed with GG and ESPY.
Andrae, the south votes repubs coz of social issues, it has nutin to do with fiscal issues. The repubs aligned themselves very well with religious leaders..... and the church leaders try to put the fear of God on the voters. If you vote for the dems who beleive in Abortion, gay marriage, stem cell research, blah blah, you going to burn in hell type of crap.
Seperation of church and state my ass, that prolly do not exist in da south, lol

I agree. People sometimes won't do the research for themselves. I was raised to think for myself and to take a stand for what you believe in. I learned from one of the best.

Thanks, Lippy. My dad is one of the sweetest men that you will ever meet, but he has strong convictions when it comes to religion and politics. He will respect your beliefs, but he won't respect anyone that tries to push their beliefs on someone else or someone who abuses his/her position to influence others. What was funny about it was that my mom already had her purse in her hand before dad stood up. She knows her husband well.

GZ, I attend a very liberal church, and you'll never hear politics preached from the pulpit. If they did, I wouldn't be a member. If you are ever in the bluegrass state, you should go with me. :smt023

Democrats are roundly rejected by those on the Religious Right because they don't oppose Abortion Rights, look what happen to Rep. Bart Stupak during the health care debate. He tried to stand up for the Abortion Zealots and some idiots disconnected the gas line to his brother's house because some Red State blogger posted the incorrect address!

The Democrats are a bit concerned about Evangelical Christians, which is why during every debate anybody running for a seat is asked if they believe in Gawd.

This started back in the early 60's. As I said go back and listen to Max's interview about his book Republican Gomorrah. The book is totally worth reading if you got the time to read it. It exposes everybody in the shadows of the of the Religious Right including Howard F. Ahmanson Jr., The John Birch Society and Tony Perkins. This book and The Power of Nightmares BBC Documentary I also posted a link to connects the battles and parallels between Evangelical Christians, the 60's push toward a secular society and Egypt's push towards a secular society in the 60's. Also the connection Neo-Cons have with the University of Chicago, support of dictatorships all around the World, even South America.

This is also exposed in Naomi Klein's "Shock Doctorine". There was also a short segment on "To The Contrary" about the direction of the Evangelical Christians where going around the time The Pill was legalized -

    http://www.pbs.org/ttc/bth_video/pop_feminism.html

This fight showed just how much power this newly mobilized group of forgotten segment of society during the 60's push for equality in the early part of the decade to the Sexual Revolution of the mid to late 60's.

Democrats supported, the Pill, the continued separation of Church and State and Abortion, all issues the Evangelicals can get behind. All the Republicans had to do is appear sympathetic to their cause...

The debate about economic issues in the South go back to Reconstruction and the animosity still held against the "Liberal Elites" from Hollywood and the Northeast...

Read Thomas Frank's Book "What's The Matter With Kansas" or watch the DVD.

I read the Shock Doctrine and Klein is as insightful as she is beautiful. But everything goes back to extremism and fanatacism taking over every political and religious ideology. It speaks to how easy the masses allow themselves to be swayed without thinking or considering the reprocussions. Its sad. Good post fa.

    Hey...

I just was thinking a bit earlier....

How do the ladies on this board view "morons" that I see as anti-woman and basically being supportive of views that are at the very least troubling across not only racial lines but genders as well.

    Pamela Gorman

Not to mention Michelle Bachmann, Virgina Fox, Sarah Palin, the list is so long its not even funny.

Why do these women hold the positions they do? Frankly the Republican Party is not honest about its most protected positions. They will not repeal Roe vs Wade, its political suicide nevermind they REALLY DON'T CARE. They can try to return America back to the 1950's in several ways, but much of that would get struck down by the Supreme Court.

As I said before the Right uses Evangelicals as foot soldiers to turn out the vote, that's all, that's it and the proof is all over the place.

    Views? Opinions?
