Again, that's not proof of anything. It definitely doesn't prove that Cleopatra's ancestor who started the last of the Egyptian empires 300 years before her actually married a woman of color (or that if he had that woman of color was a black woman). Here's the question...can you point out in Cleopatra's family tree anyone who was non-white? If so can you tell us if that person was black or some other race? And can you tell me then the percentage Cleopatra's non-white/Greek racial makeup based upon that one person?

Sorry but right now you are spreading rumors, myths and possibly misinformation off as truth. I can't sit here and tell you with 100% certainty that Cleopatra was white, black, mixed, Arabic, mixed, etc. But the evidence of people who actually have done research, including those who don't have an agenda against black folks, seem to heavily lean towards her being Greek, her being white, her being non-black. A black professor I had at Howard University who wrote a book on the black diaspora once told us during the first day of his class that way too many of us black folks combat the lies told about our people and their history with lies and myths of their own. Its almost a form of overcompensation. He told us to deal with facts, even if it wasn't what we wanted to hear or what we thought was true. He had no patience for black people making claims that were historically accurate without providing a shred of evidence to back their point of view. They were no better to him than the racists who wished to deny the contribution of African people to the the development of mankind. I was one of those folks who came into the class thinking that historical figures like Cleopatra was black. It wasn't until years later that I started to understand what the professor was trying to say and I begin to start separating fact from fiction.

Frankly I don't even know why black people care so much about claiming Cleopatra. She really didn't accomplish much, wasn't a great leader and in some ways helped bring about Egypt's end as a great nation/power. She is best known for sleeping with Ceasar and Mark Anthony and actually that probably explains every reason why black women want to believe she was one of them. Truth is black women are often looking for reenforcement of the idea that they are viewed as attractive and desirable to the world at large and as a result believing that Cleopatra was a black woman who seduced at the time the most powerful white men in the world is a powerful and positive example of such a reenforcement. Unfortunately in this case they are likley using an example that is false.

 

I'm going to have to disagree with some of you brothers on this one. Knowing your place in history is very important it tells who you are. From what I was taught has a child is that black Africans was nothing more than hunting and gathering savages that couldn't run a state. We have are own king arthor and heroes of old.
Egypt or Kemet what the black Africans call it had a rival and that was the Kushite Empire the kushites was dark skin black Africans to the south. These Nubian kings invaded Egypt and became the 25th dynasty of Egypt. They also build pyramids and other monuments in Egypt during their reign. Some of the kings in the bible was in fact black Africans. In fact Will Smith is suppose to be making a movie called the last Pharaoh of Egypt he plays King Taharqa ruler of two empires Egypt and Nubia. The is the Axum empire there is the Mali Empire of west Africa and their is the Dogon tribe they are like the druids of Africa so our history is great and should be taught. I guarantee if Hollywood would make a movie about Caesar and cast Denzel Washington has Caesar I think many white historians may have a problem with that. And I'm not saying that Cleopatra was black I don't know and we probably will never know for sure but I have a problem with people that can't even entertain the notion that Egypt had a black queen called Cleopatra after all Egypt is in Africa. I think I was the only one who said our history doesn't matter because I don't view African history my history. I view global history as our shared human history. And to be honest it matters very little because we define ourselves and who we are by our actions. All our supposed history defines is what clothes I might wear or food I eat but it will never define the kind of man I am. Worrying about who conquered who is childish those supposed accomplishments don't inspire me. The works of Ghandi, Mandella, Chavez, Jesus of Nazareth, and the Buddah inspire me. I inspire me. So like I said earlier focusing on this horse shit doesn't accomplish one positive thing. We just waste time focusing on who pissed the furthest thousands of years ago.
