I would have preferred an ending were the mystery of what the Island is has actually been answered. The "we're all dead" ending is painfully cliche. Also, it seemed that every person on the island got some closure or redemption except for Michael, (Harold Perrineau) They gave Ben a redemption/happy ending and he was evil for the majority of the show, but they couldn't give one to Michael?
I agree, that ending didn't really answer any questions. I've watched the show from the start and I would have liked to see some answers for some things. They just left it open ended so that they can make a movie next or do something else. The producers and ABC stand to make a huge profit if they make a movie and I think thats going to be there next move.
I agree with you completely they totally fucked Michael. I was really annoyed at that. Ben and Syid both killers got redemption but not Michael. And what's up with Walt can we please find out about that kid.
I was unhappy that Michael wasn't redeemed at the end of the show. However, I liked the finale. It was emotionally charged and satisfying. And they didn't answer much about the island, but the more I think about it, the more I liked that they left it up to interpretation. Not everything can be explained scientifically, nor should it be. Thinking more about it today, I think I like that they left it up to the audience. Giving a half-assed explanation about the magical powers would have been a huge letdown. Now I can go about my life thinking that light at the heart of the island is actually the earth's soul (a la Pulp Fiction). I'll probably change my mind later, but that's what I like to think it was.... And maybe the reason Desmond and Jack didn't turn into a smoke monster when they went down there because they were inherently good, whereas the MIB was not. Here is a good article that broke the finale down nicely, I thought: http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/05/24/lost-finale-theories-explanations/?icid=main|aim|dl2|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tvsquad.com%2F2010%2F05%2F24%2Flost-finale-theories-explanations%2F I also loved the Titanic-ish ending...they all came together in the afterlife because that's where their lives changed forever.... Overall, aside from leaving Michael to be a whisper on the island, I was happy with the ending.
I liked what you posted Book. Except where you said science can't prove everything. It can just not yet. My confusion is at what point did they all die?
Christian said it didn't matter, they died at some point, in fact the writers are saying none of the on island mysteries really mattered, it only mattered in that it was what each character needed at that point in their life. So Jack needed to go through all that...... but that reasoning doesn't wash for all the characters. yep, it was bad!!!
Yeah like what happened to Mr Echo? He didn't seem like the pergatory type, so where is his redemption? I am beginning to see a theme here.
Well Harold has discussed BM on the island, but Eko left the show for family issues, and supposedly they wanted him back, but there were contractual issues. Eko is in purgatory, supposedly on the island like the whispers and Michael, mind you, this is not same purgatory the other 815'ers got in there L.A purgatory......
Well, we saw some of their deaths. I'm going to have to go back and watch this last season to see if there are clues as to when the others died (like Hurley) - did they show his death during the flashes when he remembered his island life? The show left questions unanswered, for sure, and I was a little disappointed that after the "Constant" episode in a previous season, when Penny was Desmond's "constant", that they didn't show them reuniting.... I'm probably going to have to watch it a few times...
I loved the entire series. Not sure how to feel about the finale just yet, so I'll wait and see it one more time before passing judgement. Over all, the Lost is had the greatest series run ever in television history, in my opinion.
I liked it the more I thought about it. But clearly, everyone didn't feel the same way. I wasn't disappointed. I expected to be blown away, and I was blown away, just not in the way I expected. It made me realize how much I missed Charlie. He was my favorite character.
Really? I couldn't stand Charlie and wasn't to sad to see him get killed off, (perhaps because I was jealous of his relationship with the gorgeous Claire) BUT STILL, what did you like about him? My favorite was Desmond, that was my guy forsure!
I loved Desmond, too. I don't know what it was about Charlie. Part of me thinks it's because he was a hobbit and those movies are my absolute favorite movies ever. Another thing I loved was that peanut bar scene in the first season, and his one liners.
