that is the essence of the other thread of what I was talking about. I called the thread " I get so mad I sometimes. I really do hate G-d at times" It seems that evil people get away with shit and never get touched. Guru seemed like a really nice guy. It was stated that he became withdrawn and just wanted to be with his kid and only had a relationship with his kid. I can dig the brother. He seemed really into G-d and it seemed he was really screwed by the people he trusted. he also started a foundation to help other people BUT it seemed the other people was fucking him. It seemed the good get destroyed and the evil get crowned. that is why Im so upset at G-d for all that shit. No matter how kind you are to people they will spit in your face for absolutely no reason. If you retaliate then society says you are the bad guy. Guru seem like a really kind person who just got played and betrayed. The good are always forgotten and scorned.
Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal Keith “Guru” Elam Tribute Mix by DJ Premier... correction, it's a show to SALUTE the legacy of Guru. http://www.sendspace.com/file/ufqb8l note: this is not a mixtape. this is a copy of the live show premo broadcasted to salute the great Guru. this is for real hip hop heads only. n'joy some of these cuts are straight up takin me back to childhood. (and not 2nd childhood like nas said. lol) but yo, for realz... "execution of a chump" whaa?!! that was my muddafukkin jam. used to rock that shit in the walkman boppin through the hallways as a fukkin h.s. freshman. good shit for the mentals. hahaha
Reminds me of Freshman year in high school when I used to have Jay-Z's 'Reasonable Doubt' cd in my walkman. I would listen to it after school when I was catching the bus and walking home.
it's amazing how engrained that good shit is in the system. hear that shit and you feel that connection to your own self within from back then. fuck, i need to put the Step in the Arena album on the mobile music player this week. R.I.P. kiiiddd
its foul how it all ended. From what was written he seemed like a good dude. I just hate the gay stuff starting to come up. But lets pretend he was gay....who cares. It does not mess up what I think of him and his music.
eh... i don't know about that one. i mean yes, in the grand scheme of life it doesn't matter about someone's sexuality. agreed. but at the same time, he made very machismo music. part of the reason i personally could relate and get into it so heavy. i mean he talked about being a ladies man, and also about how to respect and show love to women, and also how to raise kids within a broken relationship... all of his reference points were clearly to a hetero relationship. so it would sound odd now if indeed he were gay. unlike say a luther vandross, a lot of his songs were vague. it was just "you" or "her" or "us"... not so was the case of guru and especially in gangstarr songs. but at the end of the day, you are right. who gives a flying fig for it hath fallen from the tree. r.i.p. exactly. another thing you mentioned was the content of his music. I havent listened to hip hop in awhile because it lost alot of its relevance. during the time i left it it seems Guru continued to put out music that stated alot of axioms and avers that needed to be stated. His music was wildly over looked of late because it wasnt head banging. Of course that is part of music. Music from PE , grandmaster flash and the furious five (the message) Cube (at one PT in his career) would be a fine example of relevant rap music that had a bang sound. Another great song that I like was Self destruction that came out in the early 90's. I digress and get back to Guru.
thank you back in advance for sharing your thoughts after listening to it. i know for me it was true nostalgia.
I know it will be for me. There was so many memories listening to Gangstarr. From Mass Appeal to Dwyck....
"i chant eenie, meenie, minie, moe..." classic. gotta do it with that monotone voice too. lol R.I.P., di'dunnn!!!
