Very admirable, and makes you a cut above most men, and I'm not saying that in an air kiss way. Every parent and every child is different, and what's best for all parties is different. Of course, I'd be lying through my teeth if I didn't admit I'd prefer a partner that was so active.

This is the same argument that ppl used against Oprah when she opened a school in Africa.

A child in need is a child in need.

I guess it's subscribing to the ideology that you take care of home first, before helping others.

Have you read dreams from my father? Have you attended his former church? Obama has went to Kenya a couple of times. He has spent some time with his Kenyan grand mother and half siblings. I dont know if I would say Obama does not have a connection whit his african roots.

Oprah Chopra said something along these lines "yes there is racism in America, yes most blk american kids are in disadvantage. But the true disadvantage lies in African children. When I visited chicago inner city schools, kids ask me for I-pod and Air Jordan. But when I visited dirty south african village schools those orphan children walking around bare feet asked me for a book"

I have and its a surfical relationship at best. I'm not saying he doesn't acknowledge them as relatives but they aren't family. Its the family of a man he barely knew that shares his dna its not the same as the family he knew growing up. It can never compare.

Then look for the kids who want the books I'm sure they're there.

    LOL @ Oprah Chopra

I remember hearing about that and that does it make it sound better, but I think a lot of these kids in foster homes and orphanages would be happy just to have someone to call "Mom" and "Dad", some stability and they'd probably be happy to have a book too.

Dude Obama went to Columbia in early 80's and Harvard in early 90's. I am sure there were lots of Africans licking the door of IV league institutions at that time. Also his former pastor and his harvard professor/friend are very afrocentric. I am sure they encouraged him to keep up with his roots.

Not to diagress but I have seen quite a few highly achieved intellectuals who are very light skin and who has a white mother being very afrocentric.
I have even fought once before with these highly acheived light skin professor who wears african dashiki and garb for wearing a GQ look on a cultural day, lol. It always intrigues me about those light skin intellectual brothers who are way afrocentric than even the dark african themselves. LoL

Well that was pretty racist lol. I hear you that him going to Columbia and Harvard and having Afro centric professor might have helped him keep up with his roots but I'm sure he identified a lot more with being African American if for any other reason to fit in
