She's probably no more racist than your "average White American". She probably voted for Obama and can count a few Black/non whites as her friends. Did she know Jesse had racialist views? Most likely, but like many she probably overlooked a lot of that stuff as just talk or jokes. He looks like the type to joke around about stuff he's probably serious about. Typing Sandra Bullock is a racist without proof is just crazy. Friends and people in my family have said racist things about White people and White Women, that doesn't mean I'm a racist just because I still associate with those people after the fact. Granted, this was a marriage, but love sometimes blinds true character; give the women the benefit of the doubt.
You actually have inspired me to be sober. (at times/periods/weeks/days) I'm being dead serious. :smt053 I don't know anyone who doesn't drink or smoke at some point.
:smt043 LMAO! I don't know anyone who doesn't either, except for me. Just never felt the need, plus I'm too much of a control freak to not know what I'm doing all the time.
i was thinking just that as well. i have some friends who have said racist comments at one time or another, but i certainly wouldn't consider myself racist even though i associate with them. hell my exhusband had a huge hang up over the fact that i dated black men before i met him and had made some rude comments during our marriage about black men and me...i put it down to his insecurities and his inadequacies...and again, i am not racist. whatever happened to being innocent until proven guilty...??? speculation is just speculation...i prefer to base my opinions on facts.
How funny it is when a man chooses a low down woman the people would love to say that woman is a reflection of him. well..... ?
Completely disagree. You can have your view, I dont share it. I dont paint w a broad brush like that. I take a racist for the Websters dictionary definition, sleeping with someone doesnt automatically make you a racists. It might make you stupid, weak, pathetic, discusting for accepting it - and a slew of other adjectives I can think of - but it doesnt mean you automatically have racists views, ideas and ideologies - that is what makes you a racist, not sleeping w one. Had it been a friend of mine who slept w a racist, I would lose all my respect for her and probably distance myself from her, but I wouldnt go as far as calling her a racists unless she really was one.. meaning she had those ideas, views and ideologies. I never have cared much for Bullock as her movies mainly is in a genre I dont care for, but this discussion is interresting to say the least.
Very well put, my grandmother is as racist as they come, she is 92 and I let it go. Am I a racist? Unfortunately, I think the average white person who dont interact with people outside their "race" - dont really genuinely speak of these issues - its sort of taboo, so I think that someones real racial tendencies can go unrevealed for quite some time. If you known somebody for a very long time before you got to know they are a racist, maybe its easier to overlook these tendencies? I think people just tuck it under the mat sort of speak....Unless you are someone that do interact on a real level with people of all sorts of ethnical background, then it becomes something you cant ignore. Us on this board arent the average black dude/white chick when it comes to that, I think we sometimes forget that.
something we have to think about but we dont choose our parents , but we choose who to sleep with and continue to sleep with.
Absolutely agree, I just say it doenstautomatically make you a racist. And the other comment you made that Flame responded to, I dissagree with too.
So far we agree.... I have never been a fan of hers to begin with as I said earlier (see above post) and Im surely not looking at her the same way.
I agree with what FG said. (Post #71 _ I thought I quoted it, but I didn't) Would I be considered guilty by association because I can DIRECTLY put my grandfather in one of those white robes, with a noose in his hand? I don't share the same veiws as my family, but I don't love them any less because of that.
you can choose your friends and lovers. now you can MAY give your friends a pass because you may grew up with them . hubbies or wives then you may not get a pass on that one because you chose to be with them or continue to be with them also she has not come out and spoke against his views.
Personally I don't think she needs to. She doesn't owe anyone an explanation for anything, it's no one's business but hers. Not to mention, most people would be mortified and humiliated to find out their husband had several mistresses and he was video taping his affairs. I suspect his views aren't really on the forefront of her mind at the moment.
