Just a small sample of what I've enjoyed throughout my life...and what inspires my ideas and art overall....

"CLOSER TO HOME (I'm Your Captain)" - GRAND FUNK

A Magnum Opus Tour-De-Force from a much-renowned Classic Rock ensemble

"BACK ON HOME" - MAHOGANY RUSH

This French-Canadian trio could very well be one of the first "Power Rock" ensembles....led by FRANK MARINO, this is from their 1st 1972 LP, "MAXOOM", when Frank was 16. And sounding VERY much like...well, YOU know...

    A little help!

I have this song stuck in my head from the 70s.
Its a hard rock song where they scream "fireee, fiiiiireeeeee" in the chorus. Its fairly hard (for the 70s) and sang in the typical 70 fashion. I cant come up with who it is doing searches.
Any one have any clue at all????

    In two installments:

"MA"- RARE EARTH, released on MOTOWN during the Mother's Day Weekend of 1973, appropriately....

This is the title track, and like the entire LP, it was written & produced by The Much Regretted NORMAN WHITFIELD, who was renowned as producer for The TEMPTATIONS, The UNDISPUTED TRUTH, MARVIN GAYE (His version of "I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE" was the MOST successful of ALL the couple dozen or so versions made at MOTOWN by various artistes) amongst others..

Three from the Progressive Rock ensemble BE-BOP DELUXE led by cosmic plankspanker BILL NELSON and running from 1974 to 1978.

And in addition to being a Premeier Axemeister, BILL was (and still *is!*) one HELL of an Ace Lyricist, as well....

"SLEEP THAT BURNS" - From the 1976 LP "SUNBUST FINISH"

The following three are from the 1975 album "FUTURAMA" which was produced by QUEEN producer ROY
THOMAS BAKER, and stands out as being superior to the 1976 offering. IMHO, "SUNBURST FINISH" as Bill's "THX-1138", whilst "FUTURAMA" was his "STAR WARS":

"MUSIC IN DREAMLAND" - Which can originally be found on Side "B" - Track 1, is the prime example of The-Hit-Single-That-Shoulda-Been-But-Never-Was-Cause-It-Could-Only-Be-Found-On-Album.

And is it just me? Or IS that piano bit from TCHAIKOVSKY's "PIANO CONCERTO In B-Flat Minor, Op.2"?

Ennyroad, the last closing riffs of this gem segues SO neatly & appropriately into...

"JEAN COCTEAU" - Track 2, and dedicated to the legendary French poet/artiste/filmmaker & one of Bill's inspirations..

Just so y'know....Track 3 "BETWEEN THE WORLDS" is overlooked here (unintentionally) and wwe end with Track 4, and the final tune on "FUTURAMA"....

"SWAN SONG" - *VERY* appropriate title for the wrap-up of what STILL holds up as a STELLAR Progressive Rock album to-day!

Anyway, this is for Pigpen Goddard, to whom *I* introduced these classics to when we worked together from 1999 to 2004.

We played these In His Memory And Honour at his funeral....

May "SWAN SONG" be played by *you* as a tribute to Pigpen, as well...
