and so will i when my children are 29...lol...!!! your mother sounds wonderful...!!!

couldn't agree with you more smooth. it appears that parents are afraid of saying no to their children these days and disciplining them in any manner is a no no. in the end it only harms the child as they need boundaries as well as love to teach them about the world in general. being a yes parent is not equiping your child for adulthood at all, as life is not a great big yes.

As a kid, my parents let me watch violent action movies, but when I did something stupid, they would tap that ass. They were still parenting. I had a friend who would let his kids (at the time 4-5 year olds) walk around in a store. I had to keep my eyes on them for him (or I felt so). My parents would hold my hand as a 5 y.o.

So true! The big thing going on in this area is a "retirement party" for Ronald McDonald. This group thinks that his character is making kids obese and they want him to "retire".

I say, it's the parents who can't say no to their kids when they ask to go out to fast food restaurants that are the problem!!

Just because a child wants something, doesn't mean they should always get it.

exactly joanie...!!!! you know, my kids have never ever had mcdonalds, or hungry jacks (burger king in your world), or anything like that. i've told them from the moment they saw their first golden arches that it's bad food and that they'll never eat it on my watch. all burgers they eat are homemade, same with pizza....yes i am a serious food nazi

That's awesome! I wish I could say the same. :smt043

But my daughter hears "no" an awful lot. I won't bring her to those places a lot.

On the way home, a radio DJ was asking people to call in to find more ways adults can ruin the childhoods of our children (after the Ronald McDonald thing and how the Cookie Monster eats carrot sticks now).

It's all about moderation. Kids should be eating more meals at home. It's healthier and it promotes a good family atmosphere!

You have to be...make sure they're active instead of playing video games.

All common sense, but today's mothers don't want to cook because it's demeaning and backwards.

I'm starting to cook for myself again and I'm quite proud once I've done that LOL.

So ridiculous. But you're probably right. It's ridiculous and sad.

Oh, and good job on cooking for yourself again! That's awesome. :D

i do not own one video game here. once in a blue moon they are allowed to play donkey kong or sonic on my computer which i downloaded, but that is it. that also includes limited tv time as well.

and you are right joanie...moderation is absolutely the key.

i don't know if they think its demeaning and backwards, maybe just tired after working a long day perhaps? being a parent is exhausting, put on top of that working and running a house, at the end of the day cooking isn't really something you feel up to.

oh & it's great that you're cooking for yourself again, you'll see the benefits for sure.

I remember when I was 14 and was working as a Counselor in Training at the "Y", there was a 6 year old girl. She was a bit overweight for her age. At lunch, she would always have chips and cookies. One day, she opened her lunch, instead of chips and cookies, there were carrots and celery sticks.

Girl just broke out crying. I'm serious.

Same thing for adults. This was my third day of my fitness plan. I have to be swimsuit ready for the trip. As I'm getting ready for work, I'm fixing a nice hot bowl of oatmeal.

It takes a lot of discipline at the beginning. They say it takes 3 weeks of consistently doing something for it to become a habit. I haven't hit that 3 week mark with anything in quite awhile. LOL.

I'm happy that it's getting nicer out, so that I can be swimsuit ready for VEGAS, BABY!! I need to be my slim self for that trip.
