He's the teen son of a rap pioneer, but Diggy Simmons wants the world to know he's gonna blow up big on his own. Diggy Simmons, 15-year-old son of Run-DMC rapper the Rev. Run (l.), just signed a record deal with Atlantic Records. March 24th 2010 Diggy, son of Run-DMC legend Rev. Run, is working hard to follow in his dad's famous Adidas. He inked with Atlantic Records Monday, a day after turning 15. And while there's no doubt he's proud of his father, he knows it's important that he prove himself. "It feels great. It's almost surreal," he told the Daily News Tuesday of his deal with Atlantic. "I worked for it all. My dad didn't shop me around at a label or anything." Diggy, born Daniel Simmons, credits using the Internet - specifically, his blog and his Twitter account - for helping to generate buzz over his music. "The Internet is a great tool to use," said the teenager, who didn't have to leave his Bergen County, N.J., home to make music. He met producers online, and they e-mailed tracks for him to rap on. His big break came after he posted a 13-track mixed tape, "The First Flight," on his blog. The digital album was downloaded by more than 100,000 people. "After the mixtape dropped, it was like a lot of labels were just coming in and wanted to be involved," Diggy said. On his song "Point to Prove," Diggy raps, "You know them haters probably saying, 'Daddy made a phone call,' but he probably hearing this the same time as as y'all." The baby-faced rapper, who also stars on MTV's "Run's House," insists his father never pressured him to rap. "I definitely want to go my own route and make my own name," he said. His father said he was still shocked at the quick turn of events. "I thought he needed help. He just ran off and started doing it himself," Run said. "All I did was watch it happen...He created a hype on the Internet on his own. It's really hard to believe, but it's the truth." Source: NY Daily News
He's a cute kid. Haven't heard his music but the teenage crowd especially young girls will be into him.
I agree. He's actually pretty good. People online were saying the same thing. They were actually dissin him though. Yeah. Can't have your little brother outshining you like that.
Go look up "I made you look" on youtube by him. He has lyrics and his pops pedigree but all the cussin, nigaas, and hoes I can do without coming from a 15 yr old. I cannot relate...
seriously? there's cursing, etc. on the record? that's really him? if so, that's odd, IMO.. seems like Run would try and steer his kids toward clean rap, in Diggy's case an updated Bow Wow without all the pretentious pimp talk.. I know, in real life, kids cuss, talk about N*** and H***, etc, but when your dad is your manager and you're only 15, well... :smt011
