Jay-Z interested in buying British Premier League club Arsenal, aka The Gunners. Jay-Z is a longtime Arsenal supporter. March 24, 2010 The hip-hop mogul - who already part owns US basketball team the New Jersey Nets - is a big fan of the London-based Premiership club and would be interested in owning a stake in the team should the opportunity arise. When quizzed on whether he would be prepared to invest in Arsenal, he said: "I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right, great. I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?" The 99 Problems rapper - who has been a fan of Arsenal, whose nickname is 'The Gunners', for five years - has also offered free concert tickets to the current line-up to come and see him live. He added to Arsenal magazine: "I don't know if there are any Jay-Z fans in the team but if there are they would be more than welcome to come to my next concert when I am over in London. They can come and see me do my work, and then I will come and see them do their work." Jay-Z went to watch Arsenal play Manchester City in September, after which he was mistakenly reported to be a fan of the rival team as he was attending as a guest of the club's owners. "After that game the press started reporting that I was a Manchester City fan, I am really glad all that has been cleared up and that everybody in the U.K. knows that I am an Arsenal fan," he said. Jay-Z, who owns a stake in the New Jersey Nets basketball team in the U.S., admitted he became a fan of Arsenal after seeing its former star, Frenchman Thierry Henry, play with the team five years ago. "When Thierry Henry was at the club I saw him play and I just thought he was an amazing player," he said. "Ever since then I have been a big fan of the club, following you guys, and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did. I think he had a real long term-effect on the team." He wouldn't be able to afford to buy the club, no way, but to buy a stake would benifit him very well. Arsenal are world famous and a very good football team. They have a great chance of winning the premier league this season. If this is serious, this is a great business opportunity, and could possibly help spread the football love to the US?? Haha. Especially if Diddy buys Palace (as shit as they are)
Maybe you should worry more the self-governing dominions of the British Crown: Canada and Australia. Which are mostly undeveloped (Canada - 50% and Australia - 90%) and banana republics.
he's talking about land mass, not the government and society. so in australia's case he is referring to the outback. the comment has nothing to do with anything though really. proves no point.
He is saying it's undeveloped because a large part of the land is not lived on and remains in it's natural state. banana republics? No, but Queen Elizabeth is the head of State for Canada and Australia, so they are not completely autonomous. I know Canadians and Australians don't like hearing this, but it's not just ceremonial, that's the way it's meant to appear.
well seeing that the middle of australia is just desert, it's kinda hard to populate it. and yes that makes no point at all. still doesn't explain the banana republic comment though.
ok, i had to look it up, because i was curious myself. this is what he was referring to by the term banana republic... Banana republic is a pejorative term originally used to refer to a country that is politically unstable, dependent on limited agriculture (e.g. bananas), and ruled by a small, self-elected, wealthy, and corrupt clique.
how can you say that? we have a competent prime minister who i gave my vote to. the queen has no say in how we run our country. she's a face and nothing more.
I knew this would be a Pandora's box and I don't know where Denz is coming from with his anti-Anglo stuff, but I'm just trying to explain what he meant by Canada and Australia being Banana Republics. I agree with him in some respects but would never use the incorrect term Banana Republic. The monarchy through the governor generals exert enough power that I feel none of these countries are truly autonomous from the crown. Example below So many go out of their way to explain the ceremony, but when you look at the language of the role outside these articles, it's more than ceremony. It's part of the monarch.
a) we are certainly not politically unstable b) we are not dependent on limited agriculture (although we do grow bananas ) c) we are not ruled by a small, self-elected, wealthy, and corrupt clique, we are ruled by our prime minister with whom we elected. it would appear that mr benz needs to educate himself a little more before speaking about things that he obviously doesn't know much about.
