Not sure if anyone has seen the new US show Leverage. It's based on the UK show Hustle. Both shows are about con artists who pull-off cons on deserving low-lifes and make a fast buck. The reason I'm mentioning the show is because of the casting. The UK Show has Black Actor Adrian Lester as the lead. He often has a flirty relationship with the white blonde female lead (Kelly Adams). However, the US version has gone a different route and used a white male lead. For those of you who have seen the shows, what are your thoughts on this? I, personally, am disappointed that the US version didn't mimic the UK version. What do you think? QB
The US version? Yeah, that sounds about right to make that sort of change. Nothing surprising about that. What's new??
I haven't seen leverage yet, but I am a HUGE fan of Hustle. Mickey Bricks is the freaking man! It's also good to see a show where the black male lead isn't figuratively castrated. On the show if a woman, except for members of his crew, is interested in him he goes for it. If Hustle was a US made show, Mickey Bricks would probably end up being a Morgan Freeman type father figure to his crew with no interest in sex.
Leverage is NOT based on Hustle. It simply has the same idea. Neither show has claim to this sort of setup anyway and both may have been inspired by the success of the "Ocean's Eleven" series of films. Neither show is great but they are both entertaining. Hustle would get my vote as the superior of the tw but then again I haven't seen it since its second season. The black dude on Leverage btw has something going on with the blonde chick on the show (not Jery Ryan who joined the series, the blonde in the picture above).
