I honestly don't think it got that bad until hip hop went more mainstream in the mid ninties. But if you want to make money you have to go commercial.

I agree but face it people weren't making money until they made huge commercial hits. There's no way Mase should have gone double platinum but he did because his album was basic sing a long shit

    Not true 100% true fam.

Master p and Birdman were selling cd's out there trunk locally making a grip before they blew up .

Southern niggas - better business men.Thats why we run hip hop now

Fam everyone did that. Jay did that so did Wu Tang shit even Mc Hammer did that too.
The south is dominant because you guys have better beats and better hooks but very little content outside of TI and Luda. Woca Floca and Soulja boy will never be quoted sorry fam. Do you guys know how to package a product absolutely but your rhyming skills are sub par out side of TI Luda and Weezy

    Lol looks like I struck a nerve.:D

Sorry homie but the truth hurts sometimes and the South has really dumbed down hip hop.

I got much respect for Outkast but other than them, the South brings it pretty weak.

    So true....

Though I daresay that it's a combination of ALL of the above, artistic genre included. The latter thanks once again to the Grey-Suits-With-The-Clipboards that are collectively known as the Mass Media.

Nevertheless, rep comin' yer way, m8..

    I haven't bought any either..since the Early 1990's..

The last one was by this Danish (I think) bloke called "Lucas" .. after seeing the vid "Lucas With The Lid Off".

Beyond that, I never have....and, most likely, never will.....

Dunno about the South and all that, m8....I just don't get into any of it all that heavy.....

Gotta get their name out, somehow. I would consider selling your tapes out of a trunk acceptable to get your name out there. I'd call that "good hustling". Ain't like any promoters/executives/A&Rs are gonna swing by you house while recording basement tapes. I think it's good business.

Blacks need to stop blaming others for their failures based on their own poor choices and behaviors. That is all I will say.
