What is your gift?

My gift was that I was born very creative. I'm like an architect. I can't build anything, but I can design something and have it built for me or I will try do build it myself, if I can't find someone to do it for me.

    - I was born with very strong intuition so I'm in tune with people and things around me.

    - I didn't go to design school, but I designed a line of womens clothes.

    - I didn't go to business school, but I've had businesses in the past.

    - I can't sing or play an instrument, but I can write a song.

    - I'm very good at research. I can find things in an instant. In fact, I found my fathers side of the family to add to my family tree.

Yes, but some people are aware of it and some aren't. It might not be that clear cut. Some people find their niche' and some don't.

No, cause my "gifts" are all over the place. I'm trying to hone in on ONE thing now.

I think you can practice something and become good at it, but I think that natural talent is what makes you excel at it better, cause it's already in you.

    1. I was sitting here for ages trying to think of a "gift" that I have. Decided that I'm great with my hands. Being a massage therapist has given me the ability to seek out peoples "problem spots" and work them out, be them muscular or personal. The massage table does become a therapists couch at times. I send a lot of love through my energy when I work on someone and believe that they do feel it.
    2. Yes I do believe that everyone has a particular gift that they've been given...trying to find it is sometimes the hardest thing to do.
    3. I am using my gift, not as often as I would like. I find that because I give so much of myself through massage that it leaves me exhausted, and at the moment I'm not in the position to do that & I'm not willing to go into massage therapy again full-time until I am able to give myself 100%. It would not be fair to my clients or to myself.
    4. I didn't force myself into massage, it was something that I was always interested in from childhood, so I think no, it's something that you are born with and work on.

    1. I think that I have a gift of being a good listener. It seems that people always want to share and to talk to me about their problems. I've had complete strangers tell me their whole life story. For some reason, people enjoy confiding in me.

    2. I think that some people have that gift but not all. I don't think that everyone is inviting and willing to listen to what people really have to say.

    3. I do believe that I am using my gift on a daily basis with family, friends, co-workers and sometimes strangers.

    4. I think that we can all be compassionate towards other people and help them with their problems. However, I do feel that I must give off a natural vibe that makes people feel instantly comfortable with me. I don't know if that can be a learned trait or not.

The reason I started this thread, was because my friend and I had that conversation about our "gifts". He told me to read "The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles", because I told him I was having writer's block.

Well, I read the book in 2 days (it's a super easy, quick read) and everything in this book is so true. Anyway, I wanted to share the last page with you because this last page is what my friend and I talked about a few weeks back and this is the reason I asked those questions:

Are you a born writer? Were you put on earth to be a painter, a scientist, an apostle of peace? In the end the question can only be answered by action.

Do it or don't do it.

It may help to think of it this way. If you were meant to cure cancer or write a symphony or crack cold fusion and you don't do it, you not only hurt yourself, even destroy yourself. You hurt your children. You hurt me. You hurt the planet.

You shame the angels who watch over you and you spite the Almighty, who created you and only you with your unique gifts, for the sole purpose of nudging the human race one millimeter farther along its path back to God.

Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It's a gift to the world and every being in it. Don't cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you've got.

I think this is very true. I do think that each of us was given a gift and if we don't use it, we are depriving those around us of the benefits of that gift.

Bookie, it's amazing that you posted this tonight. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and I think that your post may have been for me. I've had one of those days at work where nothing has gone right and was having trouble with a bad attitude. Anyway, tonight one of my best friends told me that her uncle just found out today that he has an inoperable cancer that has spread all over his body. He starts pain therapy next week to try and keep him comfortable. He's a great guy, and actually married for the first time at the age of 59 last summer. He's happier than he's ever been. Life just isn't fair sometimes. I selfishly thought to myself 'how am I going to be the friend she needs while I'm at my busiest time of the year at work.' This post reminded me of my gift and that I was given that gift for a reason. She needs me, and I'll find a way. I never want to be accused of wasting my gift. Thanks for the reminder.

On a sidenote, it was exactly a month ago today that an emplioyee of mine found out that her husband has less than 6 months to live due to cancer. Unfortunately, most of our lives have been changed because of cancer one way or another. We must find a cure for this devastating disease.

:smt056 So sorry to hear that GG. They're both lucky to have someone as caring as you in their lives sweetie. I know it's hard when you feel like you're spreading yourself too thin, but you're a blessing to them and I'll send prayers and positivity your way.

gg, i trust in all of my heart that you will be the support and love that they need. i've realised that nothing ever really happens when we want or expect it to happen, it just does, and it shows a persons character and their beliefs in the way that the handle themselves. i don't know you personally, but i do believe in you completely. i think you are a wonderful friend to have in a crisis, and you will do whatever you can do to make things right. as you've said about yourself, you're a wonderful listener, and i believe friend.

I can't really add more than what they've already said.

I'm very sorry to hear about that, and I'm glad that my post was able to uplift you in this trying time.

My prayers go out to them and to you.

    Yours Truly as well, m8...

It all started when I was 2 1/2 years old...and my Dad thrust a sheet of paper in front of me to keep the bathroom walls from being destroyed...walls upon which Charlie Brown, Bugs Bunny, The Fantastic Four, & Casper The Friendly Ghost originally "lived"

*NO* formal training until I went to Northwestern University in the late '70's & studied under Fleischer Animator Ben Pothoff (G.R.H.S.)

    NEVER feel that way, m8..

    No guts, no glory.

    'Nuff Said!!!!

I just saw these posts. I'm not sure how I missed them. Thank you all so much. You all are a constant support system when I need a pick me up. Unfortunately, it seems that I have been needing them more often than I normally do. Thank you again. :smt058

I don't know that I have any "gifts." I have a lot of knowledge about some things, but that's not really a gift as much as it is just an accumulation of information. I was a dancer at one point, and I've done a fair amount of stage acting, and I was good at that, but it's all in the past.

I'm not crafty, I hate cooking. I'm shit as a gardener. I guess I'm just ungifted!

I'm actually pretty good with anything art related. I pick it up fairly quick and can produce rather 'quality' product in just a matter of days.
