The 2009-2010 college basketball regular season has almost come to a close, each individual conference tournament is just around the corner, and the NCAA Tournament is just a couple of weeks away. Can anyone say March Madness? Here are some fun facts to get you pumped for the game that begins March 16, 2010: The phrase "March Madness" was coined by Henry V. Porter in 1939 to describe an Illinois high school basketball tourney. Brent Musburger first used it during NCAA coverage in 1982 causing a legal battle almost as insane as the playoffs. But everyone finally worked things out and the madness was official. There isn't a good record of who first called the playoffs "The Big Dance," but it does describe the action. The 6 schools who have the most winning history in NCAA Division I Men's basketball are: UCLA with 11 championships; Kentucky who won the March Madness games 7 times; Indiana with 5 Big Dance victories; North Carolina outlasted all the other teams 4 times, including their championship win in 2005, and Duke and Kansas with 3 titles each; There are 8 teams that won twice and others who are trying to reach that goal this year. UCLA Cheerleader. Although past history is no guarantee in this Cinderella laced NCAA tournament, number one seeds have won every time in the first round for the past 16 years and number two seeds have only lost three first round games...a 95% win average. Is everyone ready for March Madness to begin??? Source: Gather

I'm born ready to watch NCAA basketball! CBS knows how to handle those basketball games! More importantly why NBA should returns to CBS in the future!!
yessss siirrrr!!! march madness is a top 5 sporting event for me. i get amped every year. this year is gonna be exceptionally nice because i think more top seeds stand a chance of falling. last year was kinda blah, to me. my hopes (not official picks yet) for the final 4: kentucky, syracuse (doubt they will make it but i always root for boeheim's teams), georgetown (better of the hometeams between them and maryland), and kansas. out of those 4, i only expect kentucky to make it. i also agree on the cbs coverage of the tournament. always top notch. plus they get the sound right! nothing sucks more than watching a great game and the sound is all jacked, can't hear the crowd or the sneakers squeaking. wtf. additionally, they do a great job of broadcasting the games on the net. and that funny ass easy button you can hit when someone walks into your office at work that puts up a fake excel spreadsheet. hahaha... that shit is hilarious. :smt115
I love this time of the year. My Final Four picks as of right now: Kentucky Kansas Syracuse Duke I feel really good about Kansas and Kentucky but could change my mind about the other two depending on what happens this week in the conference tournaments. If you are looking for a mid major backet buster, Northern Iowa could be the team. They looked very impressive in their confernce tournament and don't get rattled. They play some great defense and unlike most of the small schools, have a lot of size and depth. If they can avoid a run & gun team from a major conference, they could get a win or two in the Big Dance.
No. 3 Kentucky completes 18-0 home season March 7, 2010 Darius Miller and Eric Bledsoe had 14 points apiece and No. 3 Kentucky withstood a Florida comeback with a 74-66 victory Sunday, completing an 18-0 home season and likely cementing its hold on a top seed in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats (29-2, 14-2) had already clinched their 44th Southeastern Conference title outright with Vanderbilt's loss to South Carolina on Saturday night. Florida (20-11, 9-7) may need to win a few games in this week's SEC tournament in Nashville, Tenn., to reach the NCAAs. On day a freshman-dominated team was honoring its seniors, it was a sophomore - Miller - who had the hottest shooting hand for the Wildcats. Miller was 5 for 7 from the field, including three 3-pointers. Miller's third 3 early in the second half stopped a 9-1 run by Florida that had helped cut an 18-point deficit to two. Alex Tyus had 12 for Florida. Source: The Associated Press
Jennifer Hudson to perform NCAA anthem Jennifer Hudson will sing "One Shining Moment" at the NCAA basketball tourney. March 11, 2010 Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson will lend her talent to this year's NCAA men's basketball tournament, according to sportsillustrated.com. She'll be the first woman to sing "One Shining Moment," the song that airs at the end of the championship game broadcast. The song has been a tradition since 1987, with previous versions being sung by Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross. Ann Arbor's David Barrett, who wrote "One Shining Moment," says he was consulted about the selection of Hudson. He called the star "one of the greatest singers on the planet" and said her Feb. 28 recording session was "an inspired performance" that gave him goose bumps. No doubt Hudson's producer, Harvey Mason Jr., is happy about all this. He played for Arizona when the team went to the Final Four in 1988. Source: Detroit Free Press
bracket is out... http://www.ncaa.com/brackets/basketball/men/ how did duke get a number one seed? that is crap.
orangemen better hope onawhateva his name is comes back 100% by round 2, or it could be an early exit this year. which would be wack because boeheim's a great coach. my pick for national champ 2010 is with a team i have never actually liked, and this year is no different. but i think they are a lil too strong and experienced to be seen. (unless kentucky can step up and play smart)
Mountain West gets 4 teams in NCAA tournament March 14, 2010 The Mountain West Conference got exactly what it wanted Sunday with four NCAA tournament bids and the highest seeding ever for one of its schools. New Mexico is the third seed in the East and will face No. 14-seed Montana in the opening round, with a possible second-round matchup against sixth-seeded Marquette. Also heading to the Big Dance are San Diego State, which earned the league's automatic bid by winning the conference tournament, UNLV and BYU . The four teams are the most the league has ever sent to the NCAA tournament in its 11-year history. Source: The Associated Press
Kansas earns overall top seed in NCAA tournament March 15, 2010 The country's biggest office pool, otherwise known as March Madness, serves up the usual smorgasbord of choices, starting with Kansas, the overall top seed in the 65-team NCAA tournament bracket released Sunday. "It's a blessing, it's a burden," Kansas coach Bill Self said of being No. 1. The Jayhawks are the early 2-1 betting favorite to make the Final Four and win their second national title in three years on April 5 in Indianapolis, but there are plenty of candidates to knock them off. The list starts with the three other top seeds: Kentucky in the East, Duke in the South and Syracuse, which will have to travel about 2,000 miles for the West regional in Salt Lake City. The Orange are trying to make the Final Four for the first time since Carmelo Anthony led them to the title in 2003. The Orange dropped below Duke in the rankings due to an early loss in the Big East tournament in which center Arinze Onuaku injured his right quadriceps. Onuaku, who averages 10 points, five rebounds and 1.1 blocks a game, isn't expected to play Friday when Syracuse opens against Vermont. "We're proud to be a No. 1 seed," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. "This team has worked extremely hard, been consistent all year. Obviously, the tournament is always going to be challenging. It'll be challenging right off the bat." Source: The Associated Press
