I guess people like to adopt children, who look similar to them. Otherwise you always have to explain, why you don´t have genetic children. If you really have a medical problem, I think you like to hide it more than if you don´t have and some just want to make headlines. It´s also important for the kids to feel as a family member, because also their friends will ask them, why they look so different.

Now, out of the reason that I assume around 10% of Americans are only black, also 10% of black adopting parents will be in statistics and 90% should be white.

For the gender- there can be also different reasons, why they choose a boy. I would also wish that my first babies (I like to have twins) would be boys. Just because I am older and the imagination that they are two and boys calms me down that it would be easier for them should anything happen to me

I have an adopted sister and as I got older I found that my father took special care in selecting her because he wanted to make sure that she looked similar to us. He wanted to make her feel comfortable as possible. This was a great observation. Adopted life is very complex.

I have a cousin who adopted a Chinese baby girl. She's seems well adjusted. She's extremely bright at 8 or 9 yrs old.

Your father is a very smart man, you have to consider, he made this great decision many years ago, when people were not soo much informed as nowadays. And I really believe that how emotional you raise up decides which kind of grown-up person you will be

Is she the only child? I made the observation that many people here in Europe adopt a second or third child of different race, if they already have one genetic baby.

Yeah, the only one. She's kind of spoiled too...lol

That´s cute! Here it is very difficult to adopt, nearly impossible..

That sucks. They actually flew out to China to pick her up and I assume they did all the paperwork here and finished the process out there.

It sounds like your cousin is attentive and intelligent. Its good that everything is working out fine. I hope the ingenuity of your cousin will help to bring continued success in this situation.

Thanx. He tries to be. You're right. Your emotional well-being as a child structures your emotional strength as an adult; boy and girl alike.

I think her downfall might be being too spoiled. I remember on Thanksgiving, she put on a show for the family and played us her violin. She kept going on and on and on...lol Her mother didn't stop her. I blame my cousin for this. I mean 2 songs would've been sufficient. People were annoyed.

It sounds like she instilled a lot of confidence in the child.

Yes, love can have sometimes strange faces...the parents are soo happy that they misunderstand what they are doing. An outstanding person can evaluate the mistakes easier.
A child must feel the love, surrounding and protecting, but it has to learn straight discipline and that life isn´t easy to be a strong grown up sometimes

Yeah. I just hope it curbs itself as she grows up...lol

    She's cute and sweet nonetheless...

    Exactly!

I'd love nothing to see her grow up healthy (both emotionally and physically) and happy. It's all about raising them with love and the proper guidance and hope whatever you've instilled in them, like you said, helps them become a well-adjusted adult.

i've said this before in another thread. i have close friends who have adopted 2 boys from 2 different korean parents. They are both white scottish and came over here after they adopted them. both children are well adapted. i also have friends one canadian and one australian who lived in china and adopted and came over here. i must say that neither the children nor the adults have been judged or considered different because of the obvious differences in their appearances.

That's good to hear. Then again, you know how nobody says anything unless it's Black and White. As we know, Asians/Whites always get more of a pass.

She will grow out of it. Once she becomes a teen and begin to interact with her peers on a different level she will adjust. She's a child now. At this stage of her life its all about her confidence. Her childish confidence will carry her to the next level. She will make the adjustment then.
