I understood him just fine, I was just very distracted over his accent.. and that he was so "country". I was sorta judging him.... he was all fish, hunt, farm stuff.... had a terrible bowl haircut .. the nine yards.
I mean, I fish and my family hunt so it was not that - it was all of it compounded together. It took me a while to get over it all, he was a genuinely nice guy tho.

Don't feel bad FG, I come from 'the country' and the few times I go back to visit I'm always reminded of how backwoods everyone is. I can almost hear the theme from Deliverance when I drive through my hometown, and I cannot wait to leave. There's nothing wrong with the people, we just have very little in common and that's obvious. Noticing the differences doesn't make you judgmental necessarily, sometimes it just means you're observant.

Geeky-it is possible you couldnt understand him. They talk a little close to that movie Fargo. "ja" "ja" LoL. I never had any problem understanding any accent, the variation of American accent or foreign. In any event, dakotans accent is light in comparison to some of the deeper Georgian, South Carolina and west virginian that I heard.

Dakotans are the most humble and down to earth Americans that I have ever met, especially North Dakotans. I think the majority of them are Norwegian descent. I had a friend who lived there and I went to visit her. They have an Air force base in Grand Forks, and I saw more IR in Fargo city and Grand forks night clubs than Chi town and Milwaukee. I was shocked. I even visited small farm town with pop of 200 and the ladies were pure angelic Scandinavian :smt050

I had no problem what so ever to understand him.. It just sounded so funny to me .. especially since I never heard it in real life:)

When I moved here to the states, I was thrown into some thick accents - like some of my class mates from East Texas, Louisiana, Misssisipi etc so I was forced quickly to understand some the these difficult accents... Man, it was haaaaard inteh beginning:)

I have to say, he was genuinely nice and seemed very grounded and decent. I trust you on that one about Dakotans..

I don't know what is wrong with me, but over the last few days, I have been this unstoppable eating force. LOL! And it hasn't been good food I've been eating.

ACK!! I need to lose weight. Must get back on track.

Okay, I'm off to my friend's house to start watching Oscar coverage.
