MORE PROFESSIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN SEEK SEX IN BRAZIL, STUDY SHOWS Cleveland, OH (BlackNews.com) - A recent study suggests that more professional African American men from the United States are going to Brazil to live the lifestyle that most men only dream about. Jewel Woods conducted extensive interviews with professional black men who experienced the sex tourism industry in Brazil. Speaking with black men in cities nationwide, Woods found that many professional black men seek overseas what they are not getting in America and from professional black women. The majority of the men in the study were highly accomplished. Middle-range professionals were interviewed as well. Woods is the "study behind the story" and is quoted in September's Essence magazine in "Blame It on Rio." The article investigates rumors of African American men traveling to Brazil for secret sex vacations. "The study raises questions and concerns about the traditional belief systems of the black middle class, the black family, and the "sexual politics" between black men and women. It also raises questions about what is meant by a "good man" and brings new insight into issues of masculinity, morality and male privilege in the 21st Century," said Woods. The author of the forthcoming study "The New 'Ugly American': Professional Black Men, Sexual Paradise & Brazil," Woods examines the implications for black men, black women and the black family. He also delves into African Americans' relationship with the so-called Third World, an important point, especially with so many professional men participating in the Brazilian sex tourism industry. In a different twist to the sexual innuendo of, "Once you go black you will never go back," the impact of Brazilian women on the minds and imaginations of professional black men raises the issue "Once you go to Brazil, you will never come back..." Interesting find. I've always heard that Brazil is a bit of a sexual paradise, in some ways. And I've always found Brazilian women to be sexy bombshells. Hell, I'd love to visit there one day myself and live for a while. Though I'm single, so I have no ties to any one woman. As for the implications to black relationships and so forth, I think is says alot of what is not going on between these successful brothas and the sistahs which they are with or after. I was watching C-SPAN the other day about a forum on the state of black men in America, taped a couple of months ago. Bill Cosby was on the panel. Anyway, a black Congresswoman, I believe, stated that there's something wrong in our community when the best and brightest and most suitable black men and women can't seem to find good, quality relationships amongst one another. This break down of family and relationship goes far and beyond just brothas going out of the country for what they want.
Brazilian women I like to know what shade do Black men prefer in Brazil? I know of the Bahia African looking women,and some that are mixed. Plus I wonder if the European Brazilian women reject the professional Black men for the usual European man? I remember Pele when he dated Xuxa a German Brazilian but he is a celebrity and rich. I usually keep my head out of publications like Essence. They only feed the slave mentality embedded in a lot of black Americans even to this very day.
I have one thing to state about this: FUCK JEWEL WOODS AND HER STUDY. It's none of her -- or anybody else's -- busy where Afr-Am men go on vacation or why! The only reason that it was published in Essence was to stir up some shit bet. BM & BW. Not in Essense under old ownership Kid, you hit it on the head. Before Time-Warner purchased the magazine there had been articles on IR but they are tasteful and informative. Now, it is more sensational and tabloid. This academic must had seen some videos of Brazilian women with rappers or had a companion left her for a Brazilian woman. It is not good journalism.
I think the Essence article is an offense to the country of Brazil. In other words, they are saying that the women of Brazil are whores and prostitutes who are willing to do anything just to get a few dollars from black American men. Even though the study may have been conducted by a black man, the article appears in Essence magazine (most Essence readers are black women). I hate to be critical of black women here because sometimes they get bashed unnecessarily on this site, but I find it hypocritical that SOME sistas would be questioning the motives of black men who travel to Brazil. After all, black American women have been traveling to Jamaica for many years and doing the same things there that they are accusing the brothers of doing in Brazil. I know a sista I worked with who went to Jamaica with some girlfriends for a week. When she returned to work, she had all the women crowding around her cubicle and telling them about how she got her groove back down there. She talked about how a man there told her how pretty she was and he "spent time" with her for most of that week. She implied that she had sex with the guy and she was in a relationship at the time. Now there is nothing wrong with having someone telling you that you're attractive and being intimate with that person if you want to, but what's good for the sistas should be good for the brothers, too. Stella should not be paranoid about Jerome's Brazilian exploits. But there is one thing I'd like to recommend to the black men who visit Brazil and have affairs there. Maybe they should consider marrying these Brazilian women and taking them back to the States. Brazilian women are beautiful and deserve to be treated well, too. I agree what you wrote about the BW double standards. However, I don't advise marrying Brasilian women and bringing them to the US -- VBM (Very Bad Move). If you must marry a Brasilian woman -- live in Brasil. When you travel there enough of times (like me)...you'll understand why. The Kid Rasta 8)

Recently a Georgia businessman has been sought after by law enforcement for organizing "sex cruises" in Brazil for middle aged businessmen (mostly white men). Some of the girls were underage. It seems that its not just black men but western men in general that are taking advantage of Brazil's sexual reputation.
There is a good chance that they do. I here that Brazil is far more advanced than most countries in terms of social race relations.
