Show a black man a noose in 1955 and while trembling in fear his response is: "No sir"

Show a black man a noose in 2010 and while standing still and very calm his response is: "I wish a muthafucka would".

If some black men today only realized how fortunate we are to have gotten to this point in history.

Forgot 'bout that. Also, since I'm dark-skinned, 5'11 and 260lbs, I'm by default supposed to be nothing more than a empty headed thug.

Just for kicks, look up Powernomics, by Dr. Claud Anderson. Very good stuff there.

Maybe coming from a family of immigrants makes me see this issue from a different angle but 1. Hip hop as a whole has done more for the African American community and race relations than the civil rights movement. The civil rights movement brought equality through legislation hip hop has been able to bridge a huge racial divide through music. There are many people who would know nothing about social issues if it wasn't for hip hop. You guys blame too much on the music without giving it it's due praise. What you guys feverishly argue against isn't hip hop it's poor parenting and weak family structures. American parents as a whole have given up and are failing their kids. Not everyone of course but there is a spoiled lazy entitles culture that's taken over. Kids would rather be famous then do a good job be know for medocrity nation than be praises for exellence by a small number of people. And here's where I gotta call you guys racist hypocrites. All the pop music that promotes ww to dress the way they do and act all bubbly and promiscous is never under fire. That behavior leads to teen pregnancy and a large increase in STDs but white culture isn't under fire or having that be their representation because they don't allow it to be. Hip hop is just fucking music, we should all be grown enough and smart enough that it comes back to the individual. Choose better and be better. We have obstacles but we should over come them not complain about them.

what you talkin' bout ol' head

    :p

and smooth, if you're going to introduce pre-civil rights rhetoric into this thread, step off your Fox News (because we all know Fox is fair and unbiased) soapbox and talk about the bad aspects, like the lynchings, beatings, water hoses, dogs, and other forms of public humiliation those people suffered.

...you know, the stuff which lead to the movement in the first place. I'd rather be the degenerate spawn of a 90lb crackhead in 2010, watching souljaboy rap about biscuits and chicken, than getting my ass kicked by random KKK members in the 40s and 50s

It ain't that deep for you to bringin' the face palm.

I'd rather die fighting KKK members with both fists and a shotgun than to be some degenerate spawn of a 90lb crackwhore. Bump getting my ass kicked. There are still black folk who get their asses kicked in a different manner.

Airhead teenage WW who are brainwashed by pop music isn't my problem. When I interact with folks and I am judged by what ignorant black folks do, that's my problem.

People don't need a reason to hate you -E. Roosevelt
If you think eliminating the so called bad behavior associates with blacks will stop people from disliking you you're buggin. All we can do is be the change we want to see in the world. Take responsability for our own actions and project our best selves.

This one I have to give you. I still get weird looks from black friends when I do white water rafting or go snowboarding. As a people we're too damn limited.
