Scottie Pippen wants to return to the NBA to coach. February 26, 2010 Living now in Fort Lauderdale, Pippen, 44, sounded puzzled by his lack of opportunities today within the NBA. He wants to coach in the league, putting to use everything he learned during a 17-year career when he redefined the small forward position. Read more: NBA FanHouse Scottie and his wife Larsa.
Why not? He has 17 years experience as a player not to mention six rings as a key player on Bulls. He knows how to win.
maybe MJ will hire him to coach his new team? i think scottie should hit the college ranks first and see what he can do before stepping on the nba floor...the fact of the matter is that scottie always played the supporting role to MJ...to be a coach you have to be a leader
That's not true. Phil Jackson wasn't that great on the court great coach. Isaiah Thomas was a legend horrible coach. Pat Riley was a wack player but a great coach. I think guys who play supporting roles have a better chance of seeing the team as whole they don't get to bask in glory. Btw MJ couldn't have done it without Pippen who as the best small forward at the time.
i think that scottie should get his feet wet first before taking on an nba team...that means either college or as an assistant coach in the nba...there is nothing worse then stepping into that role and failing the way isaiah thomas falled...i think that scottie has a different temperment than isaiah...they both played for legendary teams...isaiah's team was know as the bad boys of the east...scrap dirty players...almost street basketball...the bulls were untouchable...but with ease almost as if they were clowning every team they played...
I would luv for Pip to get an opportunity to coach in NBA but as Lippy stated he should get his feet wet 1st. I'm sure there is a NCAA team out there who would give him a chance.
So he wants to be a coach but no one is giving him an opportunity. So what? I don't see the big deal. He's not the first great player to not receive an opportunity. Does the name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ring a bell? Yeah, he's been an assistant coach here and there but he's never been seriously considered for head coaching position, yet he's certainly a more accomplished and greater player than Pippen. Scottie will live.
Many basketball experts and commentators believe that Scottie's I.Q. in the game of basketball to be one of the highest out there. When he was still a player, many used to say that someday he will become a great coach. When on bench, he was always seen coaching his teammates. But, is he a great motivator? Can he inspire players? Those are the traits the Zen Master (Phil Jackson) and Vincent Lombardi possess.
