Ok now I'm outraged. What the hell is wrong with these kids. It's like they're looking to start shit for no reason at all.
I find it hard to get outraged about stuff like this. We black folks blast that coon/ghetto/hood/project shit into pop culture then get mad when people make fun of it. Here's a newsflash, it's just as stupid when we do it as it is when whites make fun of it.
The problem with them doing it is they look at is a representation of all of us. I agree we look dumb doing it but I'm tired of white people using that example to define us all.
well you know, statistically speaking, there would have been a good chance that someone white was around when this was happening, given UCSD's racial composition (blacks only account for a laughable 2% of the population). While you do have some forward thinking white people, that stand up to racism, you have many that will just sit by and fall victim to the 'good Samaritan' condition, where everyone sits back under the lucid pretense, that another person will confront the situation. Then of course you have the people that harbor racial negativity towards blacks themselves, and secretly accept the idea of noose hangings, and would do the same if they did not fear consequences. While I have not been party to noose hangings, I have been in similar situations myself involving groups of white guys. The N-word was used to describe a player, from another school we had a soccer match against, by one of our guys (a black player from another school was about to fight one of our players post-match). Not one other white guy around said anything to correct him. Different situation, same ugly pattern.
Once again we look to what the white man is doing. White people have copied us since day one. If we black folk don't like to be portrayed like this we shouldn't be out here embracing thug/hood culture and projecting that shit onto the world. We want to keep on with our ghetto madness and not be called out on it. These white boys are a reality check pure and simple.
I think we ignore it because there's so much money attatched to it. Kids don't want to be doctors or engineers anymore they want to be rappers because thug life is glorified because thug life equals dollars. Again I have to point out ghetto culture represents a small portion of African American culture but the white media only pushes the negative image because it equals more dollars.
That's bullshit, the ghetto has completely taken over to the point that a smart black person who acts it is as rare as finding $20,000 in the street. Being intelligent and black and male all at the same time is the kiss of death in the black community. Obama is a once in a lifetime exception. Look at that Black History thread, ya'll turned it into a hip-hop thread, that's black folk in microcosm, right there.
You act has if black folks can just turn off generations of destructive behavior. I'm all for my black people taking responsibility for their own actions but you must understand this type of behavior took decays to create. And if by some miracle that all blacks tomorrow clean themselves up and all become productive citizens of the United States I guarantee that racist will find new negative stereotypes to mock black people.
you can't beat the house, because the house always wins we can keep playing this game all we want, but it'll never end.. am I to stop behaving a certain way or refrain from liking a particular food, because the 'house' is mocking me for doing so? stop playing the game and the game will stop playing you
It's interesting that nooses just don't have the same effect that they used to "back in the day". That's what angers "insecure" people more than anything.
well the n-word is flying around left and right, hell rappers are even going to awards with it written on their shirts and joking about it.. guess it's time to play the noose game now pretty soon, ull have a rapper going to an awards show, with a big fat, platinum noose around his neck
interesting way of looking at this tony...are you of the belief that blacks shouldn't even flinch when something like this happens? without a reaction the other party would just be left holding a rope that made no impact?
Slow down Karma we had about four exchanges about hip hop and sorry to break it to you it's part of African American History so it was well with in the context of the thread. As far as Obama being rare that's bullshit. Every single one of my friends black or otherwise went to college and most of us have advanced degrees. It's what people choose to pay attention to. There are many bm who are educated and doing well in their perspective fields. As many as whites? No because they out number us roughly four to one so of course there's more of them that are educated and successful. "Ghetto" culture finds itself in every populus around the world. The only problem here is that we allow it to define black people.
