Tiger put golf on the collective conscious of the world. He's the epitome of the sport of golf. I find golf incredibly boring and it's quite the expensive sport. Before Tiger came along, I bet most people wouldn't have been able to name a golfer to save their lives (aside from Arnold Palmer and Jack Niklaus).

Golf was usually fairly under the radar of most people before Tiger Woods came along and blew it into an exciting sport that many people watched because of him. Kids wanted to become golfers because of Tiger.

Add all of that, to the fact that he was then found out to have cheated on his wife with not one chick, but 15+ and add that to his silence for 3 months, giving the media and those women the power to write the story...could be the reason that this story is as large as it is. Add to that the fact that thanks to Tiger Woods, golf is a mainstream sport now, moreso than ever before.

As for the NY Governor, he's a politician. He's a lying, cheating, sack of sh*t. What he did is just another day in the life of a politician. You can't compare the two.

Politicians who are NOT proven to be lying sacks of sh*t are more newsworthy than those who are, in my opinion.

Excellent point Bookie. What Michael Phelps did for swimming, Tiger Woods did for golf, and people tend to get really 'involved' in the day to day lives of the people they view as 'role models', or to whom they assign something like 'he represents the world of golf' to. They then feel anything done that they perceive as negative is a personal affront to them and the sport represented, and the media is all to eager to examine, perpetuate, and pander to that.

What can I say Espy.. . Italians president wants to make his girl friend(s) as a minister, the wife of the french president was in Playboy and most of the rich people in Switzerland are married to Ex- prostitutes or porn stars, germans government is full of homosexuals and married husbands, who have a girl-friend and a baby with her.. so I guess, you are right!!:smt005

Lee Travino. Knew who he was since chidhood because he was very important in the Mexican-American community.

I think it is the same thing because Tiger is an athlete and this is what athletes do. I are promiscous yeah there are exceptions but the standard is flagrant promiscuity. Again I use guys like Jordan who did as much if not more for basketball as Tiger did fir golf and his indescretions were no big deal because basketball is a black sport. We expect them to mess up.

I wouldn't say that Jordan did as much for basketball as Tiger did for golf. Basketball was already a pretty high-profile sport before Jordan.

I just can't see how comparing a politician to a mainstream sports star is a fair analysis.

I'm from IL, where our last 2 governors were ousted out of office because of corruption, and where there are many, many, many more corrupt politicians. I really don't care what governors of other states do, when I have enough corrupt politicians in my own state to worry about.

It's not the same thing, imo. So, we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this.

I love that when the European posters here before mentioned that they thought Europe was more tolerant, a few Americans jumped on their back and insisted that no, Europe really wasn't more tolerant at all and that we've never had a black man in power yadda yadda.
And now that Francie and I have mentioned very similar incidents involving famous white AND black athletes, our input is discounted because Europe actually IS more tolerant.

Seriously though, the media attention this has all got is because he's a lying, cheating scumback who has humiliated his wife and his children, destroyed his clean reputation and lost a lot of his fanbase. Were this a popular, well liked white guy in AMERICAN sports, I'm sure he'd get the same reaction.

I can live with that darling. Btw I agree basketball was popular as was golf. Golf had been around longer actually but my thing about Jordan is that people who don't even know the English know who Michael Jordan is much like Tiger. My point with the politician comparison was that they're both public figures. I think my main outrage about this is the tenor of the press is"Listen little black boy we demand an apology from you after letting you into our all white sport before you got there and giving you your beautiful white wife. How dare you, now be a good little boy and say your sorry even though we never seem to DEMAND it from other athletes. With exception of Kobe Bryant but hey he was up for rape too so we kind of had to but shame on you Tiger"
I know it seems over the top but like you said we just have different povs on this one.

Don't lump me into past arguements because I never said that European countries were less tolerant. Can we keep things focused on this thread.

Did I mention you specifically? I don't think I did.

And to your previous post in responce to Bookworm, where is this 'listen black boy, we demand an apology' business from? Like I mentioned before, any respected individual with a reputation for being a whole some family man would get this kind of treatment.
Any celebrity, regardless of race, would be pressed for an apology for the public, that's how it works if you're in the media. I seem to recall Bill Clinton making a public apology after his fooling around, or does that not count either? You just seemed to be making this stuff up, really. The only racial angles I've seen being thrown into this shit is on stupid websites like hater site. People are angry at him for his actions towards his wife and family. They would be just as angry if his wife was black.

I almost agreed with you up until that last statement. Show me one situation where the wife was black and there was an apology. Go ahead I'll wait.
Btw Clinton apologized because he lied not because he cheated. I'm going to keep bringing up Michael Jordan he had a whole campaign "Like Mike" where everyone in the world wanted to be like Mike and no apology was demanded from him.

On a serious note you said the media would treat a gut married to a black woman the same and I hate to tell you bw are not valued in this world. What happens to bw around the world or more remotely in this country is an indication of that. I know you individually might think differently but here in the US ww are the prize ww are the standard so if a bm leaves or cheats on a bw it's expected. To further prove my point about value I would love someone to point out the last time a black girl was missing and the media stopped all coverage until they found her. Again take your time I'll wait.

I do want to point something out here though..

he might be black here.. outside the US, he is an Amercian.

and I honestly dont think the media cares if he disrespected his family or others, they just exploit everything that can make money.

I agree but as far as coverage goes on this scandal. I solemnly believe that his race had something to do with it. Even he's an American everywhere else the place where it's being covered still see a black guy. Threw months of coverage for a cheating scandal come on that's just bullshit.
