    yawn

I did not even know they started Opening Ceremonies

    :p

Maybe it's because I'm more of a fan of the summer games, which has more 1 on 1 sports like wrestling and judo

    Go USA Hockey!?!

It's hard to get excited over winter sports when I'm sitting here in Australia, at 10.20pm, sweating so much I think my nipples are about to slide off. However, I will say I enjoy the winter olympics far more than the summer games. Snow is so beautiful and seeing the skiiers in those full body lycra suits...well, lets just say, I feel a tingle. ;)

I've enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics this year.

My favorite events are the ones with skiing and snowboarding.

What you don't like the 'keeps you on the edge of your seat' Curling competition?

I like the biathlon, speed skating, and skiing. Though I've watched almost none of it so far. But I see the US leads in the total medal count and the number of golds so far.

It's not an a sport without black people. It's not a sport without us. It's starts to get a little difficult when we show up. So these winter Olympics should really be called the *White games* because most of the sports are inaccessible to black people. Alpine Skiing, The Luge, Bobsleigh (Yeah, yeah yeah. you had Cool Running’s and the Jamaican bobsleigh team).

I don't how ANY skier can say they are the best in the world when very few people ski. Whereas Usain Bolt is THE fastest man on earth because every able bodied human being has ran at some point in their life. How many of you have been in a bobsleigh or a luge or done a ski jump ? Having said that I still watch the games though.

What a faulty statement. There is no ban on black people participating in any of the sports in the winter Olympics, anyone can participate, it so happens very few black people have chosen to do so. That doesn't make them a sham. Those people qualified to compete because they are the best in their respective sports, period.

much agreed. UKB, you win no medals for that argument. lol
and as far as black people in the winter games, props to shani davis for his 2 medals in the distance speed skating this year.

wurd. the snowboarding halfpipe was rockin. shaun white is a friggin monster. i see why his competitors hate on him so much, there is nobody even close to his level on a consistent basis. he's like tiger woods on a snowboard. (huh? that made almost no sense. hahaha i luv those lame ass parallels that people make)

the women's downhill speed skiing was tight as mug too. why do people feel bad for being entertained when someone crashes? lol

congrats to ohno for setting the new record for the most decorated american winter athelete.

I never said that there was ban on black people. But what I am saying that ALL the sports in the winter Olympics are minority sports (Bar Ice Hockey), in fact they are the minority of minority sports. It's not a proper olympics if very few people can only partipate in, but you say black people have chosen not participate in the Olympics. Right ? Ok. Yeah I can just see it now, in the villages in Africa "Hey let's go Skiing in Switzerland" or in the slums in India "Fancy having a go bobsleigh ?" or how about in Brazil "Fancy a round of curling ?" Yeah right. Do yourself a favour and think before you write.

I watched this brother all week doing his thing. I noticed the German figure skate team has a black man dancing on ice. Please kill this idea that wintersports is for white people only.

Not having immediate access to something does not prevent you from participating. You yourself mentioned the Jamaican bob sled team... last time I checked it doesn't snow in Jamaica, and yet that didn't stop them. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Living in Colorado where alot of these sports take place every winter, day in and day out, I don't see how anyone is left out of participating. Skiing and snowboarding are both expensive sports but the aren't inclusive to only certain colors but any color who can pay for the lift. The schools have programs to make it more affordable and on weekends and days off you can drop your kids off at a bus and they are supervised and taken to the mountains to ski/board. So even if your parents don't ski or can't afford to take the whole family, the public schools make it happen.

I have a friend whose son is an amazing athlete and they gave up their home/life in Denver and moved to Summit County so their son could practice every day and pursue an Olympic dream. It's called sacrifice. If you want it bad enough you can make it happen. It wasn't based on color. It was based on an amazing talent. They pay for it with sponsors. He races I believe in Super G and J2. Even at his age there are companies who want to be associated with talent/winners. They will help financially with your dream. So first you must have athletic ability of an amazing level. That excludes alot of the population right there.

You sound like you are a whiner and perhaps have a chip on your shoulder.

Agreed Raudi. Shani Davis clearly proves that's complete BS.
