For some reason, I just like a guy that has good chemistry, looks are important but not the priority.

I agree on chemistry, but looks aren't important to me. If a man has a great sense of humor, I'm going to find him attractive regardless of what he looks like. That's the one quality I can't do without.

I have a cool demeanor, there is nothing on an internet you can say to offend me, I have a life and I love it. When your a happy person on the inside, the outside world can't touch you:yawinkle:

Okay well L'il Wayne is someone who would be fugly to me were I to solely judge him based upon physical appearance, however if he had a great personality the physical wouldn't deter me in the least. I find that if I like their personality, they become very attractive in all respects.

If I were black, I wouldn't be me. So no. Part of what makes me who I am is my skin colour and the cultural background attached to that. If I were black or asian or indian or middle eastern I'd be a totally different person.

And I don't believe the whole "looks don't matter to me" thing. They matter. They always matter. You can't sleep with someone you find completely unattractive. Yes, sometimes it takes time, and seeing who the person really is inside, to find them attractive. But if you end up in a relationship with them you have quite clearly found them physically attractive (regardless of your initial reaction).
Humans in general (not just the males of the species) are very visual creatures, so looks play a big part in things. We are different, however, in that we can see through that to the beauty inside and that changes our perception of the outside.

The only difference between the beautiful and the ugly is perception.

I was just about to disagree with you Sin Mari before I got to the last 2 sentences. That is absolutely how it works for me. If a man has the personality that appeals to me on whatever level, he will become very attractive to me, regardless of what his physical features are.

I couldn't agree with the two of you more. I've said this before on the forum, and I'll say it again. There have been several times that I thought someone was beautiful or handsome until they opened his/her mouth and I saw his/her lack of beauty on the inside. Then, there have been people that I might not have initially found attractive that once I got to know them that they were some of the most beautiful people in the world in my eyes. Beauty is ALWAYS in the eye of the beholder.

I think this is a very interesting statement because its well said. It's about perception. :smt001

I would hope my husband would still want me if I were a different hue. My opinion of him would drop if he didnt. I can say that I would still want him no matter the skin pigmentation or lack there of.

Having said that, I do have a preference for black men. I find them the most attractive. But I will date anyone who catches my eye for whatever reason.

Why is colorism being equated with preference?

Because a black female asked the question.
