My teeth are staining because I drink coffee -- but I think the "tooth whitening" trend is stupid. What's up with that anyway? As long as your teeth are in good shape, clean, healthy, & such, why do they need to be artificially white? I wouldn't penalize a woman for having stained teeth... Bad breath, yes, stained teeth, no... Ladies, would you penalize a guy for having stained teeth? (<--- mine are no longer like that....)
Great topic! No, of course not. Sometimes teeth are not their whitest, but it's not the person's fault, just like some people's teeth are crooked and the reason is that the parents were not able to provide braces for child. When I met my husband, a part of his front tooth was missing! I didn't care, eventually we saved up the money and got it fixed. I tried those tooth whitening strips once... they left my teeth awfully sensitive... so I left them alone. Baking soda works well, but shouldn't be used too often.
You wanted my opinion, right? When I see horribly stained teeth it makes me feel as if the person who doesn't take care of themselves. They may not brush or floss as often as necessary, smoke, and yes...drink cup after cup of coffee. In my opinion, if someone needs to chain-drink coffee, they are not getting the required sleep, exercise, or diet they need to maintain energy throughout their day (and I HATE chronic coffee breath). In reference to Moskvichka's post - My parents could not afford to get my little crooked-teeth-self some braces so at the age of 23 I got them for myself. I looked like a teenager for 2 years and shelled out quite a few dollars but now I love how my smile looks. And since I am so proud of it - I keep them clean and pearly white.
Yes, and, sorry is this offends you, but most of the people who use those whitening strips, are probably too lazy to keep their teeth whitened on their own. Putting a piece of tape of your teeth doesn't exactly do the job.
Why... How could you say such a thing?... ...Just joking. Of course I wanted your opinion, that's why I made the post. I have to say though, if you encounter a person who doesn't take care of themselves, you'll see it long before you see the color of their teeth... My thing is: stained teeth are just a by-product of using your teeth, whereas whitening is artificial, makes your teeth hurt (as Moskvicha observed) & exposes you to what could be noxious chemicals, etc., in the process. So I wouldn't hold it against a woman if her teeth are a little stained. That just comes from living. The teeth can still be clean and healthy, even if they're not pearly white... I'm not even a big fan of tooth straightening, as long as the teeth aren't unhealthily crooked...
Some folks may not agree with this, but I would prefer a woman to have teeth that were clean, but at least a little bit shaded in comparison to having pearly white ones , because it makes your teeth look artificial, and especially painful, when some people try to smile.
You can probably check with your dentist or orthodontist to confirm it, but coloring (and discoloring) of teeth not only varies with personal habits (i.e., coffee/tea/tobacco use... etc) but also with individual genetics.... Bleaches/Whiteners work better for some people than they do for others. Just as pigment in skin determines how much an individual will absorb u/v light, similar genetic properties affect teeth coloring.... We all have imperfections while trying to be perfect.... "...ain't understanding mellow?..."
HAHAHAHA!!!! My friends say I have the whitest teeth out of the whole group. I tell them, it's just the color contrast that makes them appear whiter.
lippy loves white teeth:mrgreen:there is a product called "gosmile" that not only whitens your teeth but freshens your breath at the same time...they come in fun little single applicators that you rub on your teeth...
I have white teeth now. All thanks to my dentist who were able to saving my teeth! Back in my home state, New Jersey, none of them wouldn't be more than willing to help me! Thankfully, here I am, in north carolina, I'm able to take care of my beautiful, white teeth properly! AND! Seeing people with white teeth, it's turn me on.
