We know that the superbowl is an event that people tune into not only for the game but also to see the commercials. We all know that it is annually the most watched event on American TV well one group is using this opportunity to put out their message. A Super Bowl ad from the socially conservative Focus on the Family featuring ex-Florida Gators football star Tim Tebow has created a scuffle between abortion rights groups. The Heisman Trophy winning Quarterback -- one of the most celebrated college football players of all time -- has cut an ad with his mother Pam, who tells of her decision not to end her 1987 pregnancy in spite of advice from doctors to do so. Pam Tebow and her husband were working as missionaries in the Philippines at the time when doctors there advised her to have an abortion due to health concerns. She did not, and Tim Tebow was born. Many women's group have labeled this ad as offensive and want CBS to pull it.
I'm glad CBS will not pull this ad off the air. Looking forward to seeing it. I was disappointed to see black women as heads of some of these organizations that want to pull this ad off the air. You wonder why the abortion genocide continue in the black community.
I'm glad to see this ad as well. Ive always thought one of the biggest mistakes made about the abortion debate is to argue it as a Woman's rights issue, when it should be a Humans rights issue.
it a human's choice. i think the ad should run but not because i am prolife, i am pro choice. i think it should run because in the USA we have the right voice opinions whether agreed upon or not. abortions in the black community is still seen as taboo, because the community, though not monothiestic, are generally social conservatives. so the "Black genocide" is not being accomplished by that means. It is being accomplished by drugs in the community, poor educational standards and perceptions about geting educations, high incarceration rates, little chief syndrome, self hate, white envy, failure of black men to give back to their communities, failure of black men to raise young black boys and girls, failure of black to view our own history with pride and Flavor of Love. (though i got to admit to watching a few episodes).
Personally I don't believe women should be jailed for paying a quack doctor to kill their baby, but there is still the blatant fact that the whole purpose of abortion in America is to exterminate black people. http://www.blackgenocide.org/black.html
Hmm... pretty sure the purpose of abortion in America is to end unwanted pregnancies, or those that pose a medical risk to the mother, and that's not restricted solely to black women.
I don't know if they should pull the ad or not, but at the end of the day this ad is just pro life propaganda. If you can run an ad featuring pro life propaganda, it would be fair to show a pro choice ad as well.
Not to entertain the ridiculous, but if what you were saying were true it would be the most inefficient extermination in the history of the world. And if you were really at a threat of genocide by abortion, that would make birth control equally dangerous. So I certainly hope you've never used a condom, or that would make you a traitor. In fact, if there's actually an attempt at genocide being made via an attack on reproduction, and you know about it, you should probably be out impregnating as many women as you can find.
Before my Mom had me, when she was a young woman, she had a miscarriage. She was home alone, while my Dad was at work. She was a young woman, and her entire family lived in another state. She started gushing blood, and she didn't know what to do. She called 911, and she called her personal doctor. No one would help her. No one would even tell her what she was supposed to do. They told her to call them when it was over. They were afraid of the possibility that she had caused the miscarriage intentionally, and that if they helped her in any way, they could be accused of assisting in an abortion which was still illegal. So they left my mother, bleeding and terrified and alone, with no guidance whatsoever. It was not an abortion. She WANTED that child. But because of anti-abortion laws, women could not get basic health care when they urgently needed it. Because anti abortion laws hurt women. Tangibly. I don't like to get into the abortion debate too often, because there are prolifers who I respect. But if you're going to get into talking about abortion as if Black Genocide was anything but a closely held urban legend supported by a number of lies, inaccuracies and misquotes, I can't help but speak up. The reproduction rate of Black people has not been stymied. Black people are at no risk of disappearing. But anti abortion laws have been proven over and over and over again to lead to the injury and death of women. That's a fact. Not a theory, not a fear, but a verifiable fact. Meanwhile, you should know that the people who created the theory of Black Genocide, and those that continue to speak on it, believe you to be a traitor. They believe that biracial children are not Black, and that reproducing with a White Woman is the same as choosing sides against your own race. Why are you embracing the mindset of people who hate you?
I'm sorry for what happened to your mother. However the purpose of the Pro-Life idea is to protect BOTH lives, Mother and Child. To imply that Pro-Life represses woman's rights, or puts them in danger is misleading.
Actually that's an accurate implication. If you believe that each individual has a right to do with their body as they see fit, then a woman absolutely has the right to choose an abortion and the reason is really no one's business but hers. And there are many circumstances in which not being able to chose an abortion would pose a danger to her life, and again that choice should be her's and her's alone in such a circumstance. I'm Pro-Choice, despite the fact that I could not under any circumstances choose an abortion for myself. The one time it was presented to me as an option due to a health concern, I didn't even consider it for one second before telling the doctor no. However, that in no way qualifies me to choose or dictate to every other woman on the planet. I don't know their circumstances or reasons, and frankly even if I did it's still none of my business what they do. They have to live with the consequences of their actions, good or bad, so it's only appropriate they get to make their own choices.
I've never seen a sign at a Pro-Life rally that had anything to do with the life of the mother. I have seen Pro Lifers scream at pregnant women, and call them terrible things. I have seen Pro Lifers, even at this board, condemn a doctor for performing abortions on dying fetuses that were killing the mother. I've seen Pro Lifers oppose abortions for 12 year old girls who have been raped by their own fathers. I've seen them treat women terribly. Certainly not all Pro Lifers are this way. But I've never seen a Pro-Women Anti-Choice Rally. Never seen anything Pro-Women at any Pro-Life event ever. A Woman's right to her own body is repressed by laws infringing upon that. There are but a handful of doctors in the United States that can perform procedures to save women with dying fetuses inside of them because of Pro Life legislation, and one of those few was murdered less than a year ago. And, as I described, when abortion was illegal many many women were in danger. Abortion is very similar to many other procedures. Outlawing it puts Women who do not want abortions into danger, because doctors fear being unjustly accused of performing an abortion, so they avoid non abortion procedures that could put them at risk. This is not theory, it's historic fact and there are Women alive today who remember.
I strongly believe each human being should make their own decisions in life. However, it is also my belief that in this issue there are TWO lives to consider. Of those two lives, one makes the decisions while the other has no voice. No person should have the right to choose life or death for another person, even a preborn person. That is the reason calling it a Women rights issue is misleading.
I appreciate your position, however I have to respectfully disagree. I place the highest possible value on human life and would always prioritize the life of my baby above my own, and have on both occasions. However, until the fetus reaches a certain gestational age, it simply cannot survive outside the body of the mother even with all available medical intervention. That being the case, up until that point it's the woman's right to make decisions that involve the fetus, because it's her body that's sustaining the baby's life. Once a child is born viable, he or she then has rights as a human being.
Black Talking Heads I notice the Planned Parenthood organization has a counter ad out with two black male talking heads in support of a woman's right to choose. I find that interesting since it's the black male who is the endangered species from abortions.
It would be interesting. Except it's not true. The Black male is not an endangered species. Race is not a species, and Black men are not endangered. The numbers associated with Black Genocide propaganda include many many cases of women who have had procedures that are not abortions. Meanwhile, new Black Men are born every day. If there were more Black Men being aborted as fetuses than being born into the world, then it would be your responsibility to have as many live births as possible, no? Meanwhile, once again: these people hate you. You are repeating the rhetoric of people who think that any Black Man who dates a White Woman automatically ceases to be Black. They do not even consider you a Black Man.
