A black president will never change a racist and prejudice mind because
they never wanted it in the first place. A black president has proven to
inspire everyday folks, not rich folks, hollywood folks because the rich and hollywood has power and in a lot of instinces when someone has power
they tend not to listen to anyone but themselves. The president is black, but you know what the producer of "the bachelor" is white and he still says no to a having a black bachelor.(just an example btw.)

Good points, but I guess I'm tired of being "outraged" on a daily basis with some PC nonsense. Being black is exhausting, I'm supposed to be mad at every little thing. For example, who gives a shit if there hasn't been a black "Bachelor"? I wouldn't watch it even if there was one. I mean really, who cares? Would it uplift the race? Does it pay my bills? Am I getting laid from it? The answer's no, so I don't care.

The VF people probably knew their all-white cover would cause controversy and lo and behold, we're talking about it like good sheep.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to karmacoma. again."

You know it's just odd how often I agree with you. In order to be concerned with political correctness, I think you have to be concerned about what everyone else thinks... and I'm just really not. In reality, there's nothing that a 'fashion' magazine is going to say or do that's going to affect anyone's life on a deep level. Controversy sells more than PC, and as long as that's the case they're gonna run with that.

hollywood isn't going to get any broader than it already is...especially in the younger generation...there are just not enough young black women in the business...so you could pick "one" out of the two you named...i read vanity fair and i like the cover...now if we want to talk about magazine covers...please please tell me WHY instyle magazine would put whitney houston on their jan issue cover...of all the beautiful black women to choose from WHY her...

    I didn't see a problem with it.

It was a rather accurate depiction of "young hot hollywood", was it not?

I don't see it that way. Like I said, they're forced to do their own thing cause they aren't included.

With that said, then they should have some people of color included. There may not be enough as a whole, but they are out there and they deserve the same recognition as the White ones. Taraji P. Henson is another actress that comes to mind.

I don't know why they chose Whitney, maybe cause she's made her comeback and debut.

I'm into diversity and fairness and like to see that displayed in entertainment.

all i am going to say to this is when whites segregate themselves out with phrases like white culture and white pride they are usually wearing those little white robes and carrying burning crosses...hmmm, i think we call that racism:smt115

there's a very fine line between being proud of being white and being a white supremacist.

    often times they go hand-in-hand.

it's not going to happen...how ever you slice it and dice it...the power is yours to pick and choose which magazines you read...which channels on television you view...what movies you buy tickets to and whose music you purchase...the consumer spending paves the road...so there is another thread i will have to try to find for you that talks about blacks deposable income in the usa and what they spend their money on...

how many bw do you think buy tickets to see a movie in a theater vs. ww...if 13% of the population is black and 50% are women...the buying power is not there to produce black leading women in the usa...black men have however crossed this barrier and broken into hollywood...i love watching bm on television and in movies...do i care if there is a black bachelor? no, pure and utter nonsense...unless it was interracial and then i would be camped out watching it unfold:tonqe:

You're right, I can't control anyone but myself. In which I do, but there is power in the masses and if there was more of an outcry from people like me, diversity would be more welcomed.

This isn't about how Blacks spend their money, this is about equality and a fair representation.

There may not be an equal footing for spending, but there could never be when the numbers for the population aren't equal. You could have some Black leading women besides Halle Berry (like Sanaa Latham, Nia Long, Gabrielle Union and the like), but Hollywood doesn't give the same opportunities as they do the White actresses. If you ever watch or read their interviews, you'd see that. It's not fair all around. It's a toss up, cause they're women and this is a male-dominated world. Then BW are more accepted in other areas, whereas BM aren't.

Thandie Newton is also a leading woman, but then she's light skinned and that brings in some other issues. Taraji might have a chance in the future.

    I'd love an IR Bachelor...lol

Which one of those actresses has a nice booty? If not it is really not diverse. Oh I forgot where are the Latina actresses?

I used to get tweets from Black Informant so I could stay up on my black news. Everyday it was some new outrage where I was supposed to get mad at white people. This was in the heat of the whole Skip Gates thing last summer. Then BW aren't represented in this or that. Then months later it was Harry Reid, blah blah blah. I finally had to unfollow them, being black got too exhausting.

As for this VF cover, sure it's plenty of BW they could have put on it. Actual pretty ones like Zoe Saldana or Taraji P. Henson as opposed to Gabby Sidibe, but they chose not to. But is this a real controversy? All I see are a few blog comments. Get a life, people.

Putting Gabby on the cover would have made the egg-head Black intellectuals and psychologists happy.

Not to mention the liberal white people and BW who insist she's pretty.

The thing is that Hollywood and the entertainment industry in general represents "fantasy": gorgeous women and swooning pretty boys. The above mentioned people don't understand that. Yes it's kinda messed up, but that's the way it works.

What do you bet Gabby gets an Oscar? They've been dying to give one to a fat black woman ever since Hattie McDaniel for "Gone With The Wind." They gave one to Jennifer Hudson by the same logic, but she's actually attractive. If not Gabby, then Mo'nique, she's a shoo-in. They stacked the deck this year.
