***********015fb6]Bill Clinton helped sink his wife's chances for an endorsement from ***********015fb6]Ted Kennedy by belittling ***********015fb6]Barack Obama as nothing but a race-based candidate.
"A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee," the former president told the liberal lion from ***********015fb6]Massachusetts, according to the gossipy new campaign book, "Game Change."
The book says Kennedy was deeply offended and recounted the conversation to friends with fury.
After Kennedy sided with Obama, Clinton reportedly griped, "the only reason you are endorsing him is because he's black. Let's just be clear."
The revelations in "Game Change" are guaranteed to reopen the 2008 Clinton racial wounds that had been scabbing over amid his post-election public silence and his wife's high marks as Secretary of State.
Laden with potent pass-the-torch symbolism, the January 2008 endorsement of Obama by Kennedy and his niece, ***********015fb6]Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg was a pivotal campaign moment that allowed the Democratic establishment to abandon the Clintons.
Bill Clinton wasn't the only one to bungle handling the Kennedys - the book says ***********015fb6]Hillary Clinton managed to alienate Caroline by fobbing off a key request on staff instead of calling personally.
When a group of prominent New Yorkers headed to ***********015fb6]Iowa to campaign for Hillary Clinton, Caroline "dreaded" getting a call to join them because she "would have found it impossible to refuse," the book says.
When Hillary Clinton's staffer called, someone "who sounded awfully like" Caroline said she wasn't home.
Bill Clinton, whose stock with black voters was so high he used to be referred to as "***********015fb6]America's First Black President," severely damaged his rep in his overheated drive to help elect his wife.

Hey, I can't read what you wrote here! It gives me a headache to figure it out, so I has to click the original story! Will you please make it a readable post in the future, thank you.

Speak of that, Bill Clinton have no confidence that Obama would be America's new president, but his comment was very offended to me, to say at least. People don't want 20+ years between Bushes and Clintons under the power, you know?

President Obama was fresh face in the Washington. People were expected him to clean it up quickly over a year, but it's far too impossible to clean it up for a year, because of Bush's failed policy.

Americans have no patience when it comes to fixing the economy, but we as Americans, you have to understand that it will take a long time to recover this from recession.

Just today, President Obama looks very angry. This is wake-up call for him.

Wait a minute. Former President Clinton was our first black president. I cannot believe he said this to our current black president.

What? :smt108

BlackTiger, are you telling me that President Clinton was our first black president?! Dude, he's white!! But I'm not going to defend President Clinton's comment, because clearly he wanted his wife to be America's first woman president.

Hmmm, I seem to recall Toni Morrison giving former President Clinton that honor that was embraced by a great many black people.

I'm a WITNESS!

She DID say that....

And, for whatever each individual thinks it's worth, many people (I wasn't one of 'em....albeit I *did* support him vigorously...) took the ball and ran with it..
