My stylist called yesterday to cancel our appointments because she’s pregnant and can’t work in the salon due to the nail techs fumes. This was a major disappointment because she does really great hair. So she offered two options: 1. she would refer me to another stylist or, 2. we could drive to her house located about 35 miles away in one of the very rural suburbs. I opted for the second.

I suspect only in rural America could you get your hair cut and styled in a trailer house in the boonies with two loaded rifles propped up in the corner, a bowl of spent shell casings on the table in front of you, by a stylist who had to take a break to go bottle feed a calf and put it in the barn for the night. :)

Like I said, she does good hair and when you find someone you like it's worth the extra drive! I grew up rural so it really didn't occur to me that it was a bit out of the ordinary until I was recounting it to my son and he looked at me like I'd just confessed to spending the night in a cave in the backwoods.

  7. Creepy. About the weirdest thing that happened to me in the Barber's was that his wife came aroud and fed me Kit-Kat while he snipped.

I would drive that far for mine if I had to. You get attached and comfortable with them after so long. One time, when I showed up to my appointment stressed, mine went in the back and came out with a bottle of wine and a glass. It was the most relaxing haircut I ever had.

Yep, she offered us Christmas cookies, but I don't like sweets, though according to my daughter they were the highlight of the evening. She said she preferred cookies in the country to the all business atmosphere in the salon. :D

Espy - that's awesome. Your story makes me miss home. lol A lot of the ladies there didn't even bother to have a separate salon...they'd operate out of their homes, or in a little room they'd built just to the side of their homes.

I personally don't understand the bond between hairdresser and client, though, because I've honestly only had maybe 5 or 6 appointments in my entire life. I don't trust people with my hair easily, so I do all of it myself. Out of those appointments the only one that came out great was the style I got done for prom...there was no cutting or chemicals involved in that, though, unlike all of the others.

Conversely, all but once or twice when I've dyed my own hair I've had amazing results. :D It's a lot cheaper, too, though I need a spotter for the back sometimes. lol

As for me? Finals are over! I'm terrified to see my grades. I know I ended up with a mid-level C in Studio I, which is ok since I was expecting that...but I have no idea how I did in Broadcast design. Fairly certain my other classes are B to B+ level, though. I'm scared for Broadcast because I worked extremely hard on the final, was very, very happy with it, but the teacher decided to simply show our projects without critique during the last class, so she could go any direction with the grade. I've absolutely no idea what she thought of it.

-I- thought it was great, and others have told me it looked quite professional (which is what I was going for). However, I'm afraid she may have wanted cliche and campy, simply to illustrate that we knew how to use all of the After Effects tools she taught us. I used those less and went for the overall look of the final project, trying to get it polished and clean....she may have graded me poorly due to the lack of light sabers, lighting, and rain...all of which are so easy anyone with half a brain could do it after taking the class (default options are cliche, boring, and easy!!! -_-..and will quickly get you ignored over on real jobs).

    Nervous!!!!!!

ah well. Hopefully she saw that I'd put a great deal of effort into the piece. If I can manage to get the horribly compressed version uploaded I'll share it on the art thread.

That's how it was where I grew up too. I'm not sure there was an actual salon in the entire town, but a lot of people worked out of their basements, garages, and such.

I could probably live with just about anyone doing my hair since I've decided to just let it grow, she just snips the ends for me every 6 weeks or so . But back when I kept it short, a lot of people would just screw it up. Since my daughter is platinum blond, there's a lot of upkeep to that and I'd rather have the stylist do it than risk screwing it up and having her hate me for life. :)

I'll think happy thoughts for you on your final grades, but I'm sure you did awesome! I know it's a relief just to be done with them.

lippy never thought the day would come when she would consider dating a wm again...today is that day...rarely does one catch my eye...he is very handsome...so far pretty funny...younger by 10 years...i think he has my palms sweating...

i feel change in the air for 2010 as i clean out my closets, garage and attic...getting rid of all the clutter...i have been giving stuff away like crazy...each room in my house is getting a mini face lift...

I'm scared to see my final grades, too. I know I did well in most of my classes, but I'm sure I got an F in my geography lab class, because that was crazy hard. Hopefully my grades in Anthro, Human Sexuality, and Library studies helps to counter that. Oh, well. Time for break!!
