    We've decided to go to New York in the Spring.. Can anyone make any suggestions on the best places to stay? Would love to go to a few Jazz Clubs whilst we are there (Only staying for 5-7 nights).

    I would like to get some advice from people who live/have lived in NYC rather than my friends who have only been there as tourists ;)

    Thank you in advance :p

  2. I take it the Jazz is his taste?

    Can't help ya sweets, been there three times, hit the lounges each time but only a tourist.

  5. Fair enough....head down to Greenwich Village, it's their equivalent of our Camden Town, very good selection of clubs. Here's what I remember;

    Do:

    1) Blue Note - I love this place, probably the best music I've heard Stateside, ever. Honestly, the tunes are aural sex. Seating can be a bit cramped so book up a good few days in advance, also get there about 45 minutes before your res and sit at the bar, they do it by slots and the queue was pretty long. Food's a little pricy for what you're eating but it's all worth it for the music. It's in the Village near America's Ave or someplace.

    2) Terra - only if you like Blues (and I actually DON'T!!) but my then colleagues enjoyed themselves, and as Blues go, the best I'd heard. Tad cramped, but that was the story everywhere in NYC. Good if you and your fella are looking for candlelight, we were one of the few non-couple groups that night. Incidentally, there's a Belgian Beer Brewpub about 30 seconds walk away, if he likes his exotic brews like me, he'll be in hog heaven!! Also in the Village, but can't remember where.

    3) Zinc - another very romantic little spot, on Saturday nights you get this Brazilian singer, can't remember her name but she has a voice that sounds like silk feels, I hope she's still there as this was back in May. Took my (then) gf there and she just adored it.

    Don't:

    Iridium, Upper West Side...the service is atrocious, about the only exception I'd make is if Les Paul is playing that particular night. Total waste of a good night.

    Thank you, Jaybee. Some great info there, much appreciated.

    Any more advice from any locals would be welcomed also, not that it has been forthcoming so far! :smt085

  7. You're welcome Bex. But this is what I get for my time and trouble by some anonymous cowards rep comment for that post...

    "Fuck off you racist bastard. Go to an Asian site. YOU ARE NOT BLACK NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO BE. It's pathetic."

    Nice, eh?
