I'm a lighter black male. For some reason, I get people (mainly women) of other races asking which race I am due to my light complexion. I be wondering whether they're blind or just stupid. I choose to not disclose my race. I just let them figure it out on their own. But I don't get offended when people confusing me of another race. Its been happening since high school. Why would a woman want to know which race I am?
My other half always gets people askin where he is "from" - it's just out of curiosity I think, it's his straight hair that fools them! It just means that people are interested in you for looking different from the norm, unique!
As I live in Switzerland..they also ask me, where am I from, because they hear the difference in language.. for sure they know, from Germany.. It´s a kind of talking. Entertainment..don´t make it so difficult. Me, personally, I am just talking and don´t want to consider every time, if my question is now intelligent enough to be allowed to ask it. Be cool, my dear..the best way to get in contact with people..
Good advice C. It's just conversation. When people are strange about answering simple questions it's easy to read into that and assume things like ...........hmmm they must be ashamed or whatever. Why be so mysterious??
It's really just as simple as that. They might think that you're half Latin or something. It's just simple interest, they're just curious. They aren't asking it offensively. I tan easily and get slightly slanty eyed sometimes, so people ask me what race I am. It's really not a big deal and you shouldn't be so sensitive about it.
I get this ALL the time. I'm Caucasian, but always get questioned about being Italian, Mexican, and African American. I'm so used to this happening on a daily basis that I don't let it bother me.
I personally find that people ask this when they're interested. When I've had guys ask me if I'm foreign, they generally follow it up with a cheesy chat up line :| And if girls ask, it's never been malicious either.
Same. I actually had an argument with this girl once, who refused to believe that I wasn't 'at least HALF chinese.' I'm not even from that side of Russia I'm from the European side.
Lol yeah someone last night said "Are you from China?". I was like "Erm, no Scotland". He was sure I was "something" else. My dad even thought my mum had an affair with the guy from the Chinese take-away because I looked kinda more Asian as a kid.
I get that all the time especially when I go into an Indian/Pakistani owned shop. They start chatting their language and after the discount I stress, I am part African and show them my Afro. I guess as well people assume you are not indigenous to the Nation if you are of colour. Maybe I should try dying my skin green or some strange colour, that will really freak em out (accept when it is a woman; ahh the ice breaker).
