I'm curious to know what the other reasons are that the NBA is unwatchable and unlikeable ? Please...tell me more....
Psssssst, Iverson is in the top 5 for best the all-time scoring averages in NBA history....top 5!!! The top 5 scoring averages of all-time are held by Jordan, Chamberlain, Baylor, West, and Iverson...
Co-sign, CAUTION...HOT BUTTON TOPIC FOR ME, SOAPBOX RANT BELOW While it is true that he plays hard and gives his all during the game, he has always been a score-first, gotta get mine, point guard, and never figured out that score-first point guards rarely, if ever, win championships. His "practice" rant still echos in the hall of fame of stupidity. How clueless do you have to be to not understand that being accountable and hard working at ALL TIMES (games, practice, film sessions, team meetings, travel, ect.) is the hallmark of being a professional, and completely necessary to building the kind of team chemistry needed to win at any level. The value of being a team leader and leading by example is completely lost on him. Not to mention the fact that at the time of the rant, he was the face of the franchise, can you imagine, Jordan, Bird, Magic, ect. spewing such stupidity minimizing the importance of practice? Of course not, and that is just one of many reasons they have rings and AI does not, he just does not get it and it seems he never will. I mean its one level of stupidity to harbor such an un-constructive attitude, but it is a spectacular level of stupidity to actually voice that attitude during a press conference for all to see. As a successful Black man it also always bothered me that AI personifies and perpetuates negative stereotypes of Black men in general with his extensive rap sheet of legal troubles, and bad behavior going back to his Georgetown days and even earlier, as well as his inarticulate speech and ghetto mannerisms. Lastly it is amusing that AI seemingly cannot figure out why he is now persona non grata, even a casual NBA fan could see the day coming that whenever his skill showed even the slightest decline that he would be shunned due to his poor team attitude and "me" before "we" mindset. Coaching/managing the star in decline is one of the hardest things for a franchise to deal with, and the star himself must have a clear understanding of the situation, and his value, even though AI still clearly has something left in the tank, he does not understand this point. Caveat emptor Philly.
"Source: Sixers offer Iverson deal" http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4704151 In other words, this is the shortest "retirement" in the history of short retirements.
I'm agree wholeheartedly. I'm a big fan and was sad to hear this. I hope he does go back to the Sixers. That was his team.
AI a sixer...again Well as you may already now know...AI is a sixer....again! Better pull out my old jersey! Being from Philly and seeing fans not even remotely interested in Basketball lately...I am really hoping he can do something for the poor sixers!
Iverson paved the way for prima donnas who had and currently have a me, me, me first attitude, which is prevalent in the NBA now, compared to what it used to be prior to Iverson being drafted. And when he got drafted, when he had his "posse" hanging around the stage, that to me is what I remember him for, not his unamusing and arrogant "practice" rant, not him being racially labeled by Billy Packer (who is thankfully no longer calling games on TV) when he was at Georgetown, and certainly not when he almost single-handedly carried the 76ers to the NBA Finals several years ago. He is not the main reason why the NBA now is painful to watch, but he is certainly one of the top ones. I grew up pulling for the 76ers as a youngster, before MJ came into the picture. I personally would NOT consider as the ideal 76er player (and the ideal NBA player for that matter) to play the game because of his me, me, me, hip-hop thug attitude and image he helped bring into the league, severely damaging it. I could care less about the NBA now, and he is one of the reasons why.
here is my .02 cents...you either LOVE basketball or you don't simple as that...i don't think that all of a sudden because of a couple of players people decide to like or not like a sport...if you love the sport you don't just watch one team either...you have favorite players on several teams...you watch both the east and the west teams...you don't stop watching the finals when your team gets beat...if you have a LOVE for the game then you watch it no matter who is on the court...win or lose iverson will put fans back in the stands in philly...wanna bet? :smt047
