This is a question i've been meaning to ask for awhile, and since it's November and a new season is upon us, i'm interested in knowing how many Love it, enjoy it, have had the balls to do it, or are simply lacking enough balls to even try it. It's a longstanding stereotype that black people hate snow/cold and want nothing to do with it. Add the idea of spending an entire day outside in it and a lot of brotha's nuts retreat into their respective throats. I'm just trying to figure out if the numbers still support this notion, and the reasons behind it. Speaking personally, I enjoy nothing more on this planet or in my existance on it than standing on top of a freshly dusted peak at 8 a.m. in the morning, looking down on a run with at LEAST 6 inches of fresh that fell the night before. I look at the trees glistening with fresh powder; the bluebirds hanging out on the trees, taking in the sun on a blue sky morning. I scope the best line to ride down, drop the goggles, and drop in. Freedom as it was meant to be! :smt004 Discussion go........ now!!!
I cannot wait to see the responses! I love both snowboarding and skiing (instructed both!) and can't wait to get my south American boyfriend on the slopes. He thinks it will be fun and I know it will be highly entertaining (his first time seeing snow).
About the only snow recreation I like is the occasional handbrake turn on ice. Aside from that, screw the snow and the freezing iceboxes it falls on, I'm taking my big brown ass to the beach.
Grew up in New England and married a Canadian gal so winter sports (skiing, ice skating, sledding, hockey) ect. are a must. Very much enjoy them, with the exception of trying snowboarding for the first time last year, never fell down so much in my life, I will stick to skiing.
You should see the looks I get when I'm on the slopes, mind you they are bunny slopes now . I never been on a snowboard but I can ski somewhat okay. The next poll should be on surfing and boogie boarding.:smt005
Not being from a country with many BM, I can't say I really know of the stereotype. Regarding your last paragraph - oh yes. How wonderful is it standing atop a run on a clear day when the angle of the sun makes everything shine? I'm not very skilled, but I do enjoy it a lot. I can't wait to move to a cold country with snow. Damn being born in the subtropics on this desert island. I wish I could make time go faster, so I could be out of here.
Didn't think much about the topic... i do like the feel wind accross my face when I Ski. The slopes around here serve as bike trails too. Fresh powdered snow is more forgiving if you have to bailout for some reason.
Hell to the naw, lol..I went skiing once has a kid ran into a damn pole needless to say that was the LAST TIME. I did enjoy ice skating though.
I personally love the cold weather months, I guess it may have to do with the fact that I was born and raised in the northeast and I was born in a cold weather month. Plus when I was younger all those 1980's ski movies made it look so fun and cool. So in jr high I joined my schools ski club and since then it is one of my favorite past times. One of the things I really look forward to is it snowing so that I can get to some of the resorts around my area on the weekends. Then I take on big trip with friends. If you ever get into it you gotta go places like Aspen or Vail in Colorado, Park city or beaver mt in utah, and of course big bear in california. But if you are really lucky enough take a winter trip overseas to the alps in France, Italy, and Switzerland, plus Andorra is awesome. RRoyce55 is right there is nothing like getting up on a mountain just after a fresh snowfall and going on a ride down. Night snowboarding can be great as well, with a slight snowfall. The trails lite up at night is a sweet sight. Those looks though I know them very well, I gotta say there are lots of times I go and I literally can count the number of black people out there on one hand. But you know what I love getting out there and going for a ride. Plus in my experience there are an extraordinary amount of beautiful women that love to ski and snowboard so if you arent into the skiing and snowboarding the nightlife in some of these places is awesome.
Equivalent to the rush of getting your first kiss from a new girlfriend..... Every Blackman must try skiing at least once before he dies. Here, I skied all day, every day.... for a week up on the slopes of Vail Colorado 2 years ago !
I love your description. Very accurate. I love living near the mountains and for that don't think I will ever leave Colorado. And no there aren't that many bm skiing but I don't think it should stop anyone who wants to. Nice pic Arch. You look like you are having fun.
I don't ski Archi, I can't cope with the cold. I'm more the sitting in the bar by the open fire, drinking hot chocolate and schnapps or soaking in a hot tub kind of girl :smt112
