Just finished watching a show on Channel 4 (UK) exploring this very issue. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/is-it-better-to-be-mixed-race It seems the BBC and Channel 4 are both having a season of programmes focusing on race. It's been very interesting to watch them. Those of you in the US may be able to watch this show online through Channel 4 On Demand. I'm not sure if they allow non-UK residents to watch. The show offers more of a scientific perspective of race mixing, rather than the social issue of people from different backgrounds mixing races. It argues of the health benefits a mixed-raced person would have over someone belonging to one particular race. The show also explored a little bit of the racial history of Brazil and how race mixing was encouraged in the Southern Americas as opposed to other colonial parts of the world. Definately worth a peak if you can access it or are interested in some of the points I have highlighted. QB
I've seen enough anecdotal evidence in my life for me to buy that mixed race people have better odds of biological advantages. It makes sense. When you inbreed, you increase the odds of biological problems. If you find two people with significantly different geographic heritage, and those two people have a kid, it probably works the opposite way. Besides, we've all heard the old story about how biracial kids always come out looking fantastic, even if both of the kids parents look like they were hit with ugly sticks, lol.
:smt005:smt005:smt005 But yeah, this does sound interesting. I like what I am, right now, but I don't like the heart disease, and all the other bullshit that comes with it.
Whoever gave me negative rep on Rain Pryor obviously has no sense of humor and needs to loosen up a bit. Some folks are waaaaaay too serious. I'm not the only person who laughed. Gee Whiz.
Yes, the King of Portugal encouraged race mixing. It was primarily a way of increasing population. In France the rulers collected the prostitutes in big cities and sent them to colonies in Africa and other places.
here is the video link on Channel 4's website http://www.channel4.com/programmes/is-it-better-to-be-mixed-race/4od#3008214 Like I said earlier - not sure if it will play for those outside the UK. QB.
