Have you ever entered a relationship with a black man that was not originally from the United States? We all would like to believe Q-tip’s classic line that states “black is black” but there are cultural differences that will pop-up when trying to maintain a relationship with a man orginally from Africa or the caribbean(difference not so big). We also all know that Africa is a huge continent and cultures vary from country to country. Have any of you had any experiences with African men or caribbean men that were interesting? Personally, I feel that most of the younger European women would prefer to date an African-American over an African or Caribbean man.Its seems the cool thing to do.Just wondering if women here have a preference- African or African American, or Caribbean? If so why?

This is interesting. I say American black men of African descent has the edge. I could be wrong, the women of ww/bm could shoot me down.

Through being married to an African man and dating many others I no longer date African men due to past exsperiences I know I shouldn't bin a whole Country because of a handful but I feel it would be foolish of me not to be avoidant now.

I prefer to date British born men now, because simply we have more in common childhood exsperiences, family structures and daily life the guy I've been seeing is 2nd generation british born Caribbean and quite simply things are easier, he's much more laid back, great sense of humour blah blah.

Interresting question but I got a concerned about the "cool thing to do" comment.
I seriously doubt that any ww on this site date any bm of any kind because its the cool thing to do.

Although my man is Carribean (Guyana), I dont see much difference in him vs my AA male friends, but on the other had an n of 1 doesnt give me much to compare with:)

My man is from Guyana - born & raised. I have dated North American BM and do notice a difference between him and them (note small sample size too). My fellow seems much more traditional in his upbringing and add on a catholic background, well it makes for some interesting conversations. Although he grew up with traditional values (the best his single mom could give to him), he is very flexible and open in his outlook.

I have no preference regarding my man's background, as long as he's a good person and open minded it's all good.

The one main thing I've noticed here in the Caribbean is how incredibly aggressive the men are in comparison to Canadian BM. It's insane and unwelcome attention (every woman I've spoken to about it feels the same). The cat calling, following, hissing, whistling is pretty ridiculous - and every female seems to get the same treatment lol!

I don't get that either, it seems to be a mode of communication. Like psst but very loud and highly annoying. It's usually followed by "hey baby, hey lady" or Hey something. Oh yes, kissing sounds are another mode often utilized.

It would be funny if they lost inspiration and actually shouted out ( uhmm hey lady uhh Hey something)
I wonder if i can find this interesting practice on U tube, under some kind of weird mate attraction ritual.
Kissing sounds what charm school are all these guys attending lol

Oh yeah, by the cool thing to do, I mean that due to the huge influence of hip hop in Europe, young white European women see dating an African-American male cooler than dating an African or a Caribbean man. Its only my opinion though, and I am probably wrong!

lol funny-- but I guarantee some women like that. Not saying you do but I guarantee that is part of the reason some women go down there is for the extra attention and ego boost they get.

As I left Europe 14 years ago (yikes!), I think the influence of hip-hop etc has changed so what do you ladies say??

I don´t click with Caribbean and African guys. I guess for two reasons, I realy don´t like the accent and the culture. Ok I cannot says so much about Caribbean men, since I don´t know so many of them. But I know a few African guys... and exept one I did not liked the way they aproched woman. They don´t seem to understand the little word NO.

I go for Black American.... we are having a great time.
