Totally agree. I need meditation for a variety of reasons and will not be stopping based on anyone's unsolicited advice.

I've only gotten weirder because of having to deal with weirdos not because of meditation.

  2. I look forward to seeing the show.

The comment that meditation makes you weird, just tells you alot about the person who made that weird comment.
Its one thing to have an opinion, its an entirely different thing to based on their own limited observation (draw the conclusion it was the meditation that made a handfull of people "weird") think they are right and the whole medical community wrong.

The medical community (east and west) are all in agreement - meditation is very good for you and there are so many levels to do it on.
More complex meditation needs training and an experienced teacher to guide you, but there are so many very very simple ways to do it that really dont need any training but a few simple techniques you can find on line on very reliable sites.

So true. I mean really, what does the cancer clinic know anyways? Those patients don't need meditation for god's sake, it just makes them go crazy! They should really stop the insanity.

Would you please just stop? I really don't care what you think about the subject, as I was asking about people who actually do it, not people who think it makes people weird.

I really don't care for your input in this thread as it doesn't amount to anything substantial, no one asked you for advice...so before you start demanding that we listen can you just leave it alone now that you've said your piece, so we can go back to discussing the positive impacts of meditation without you derailing yet another thread?

I'm only weird because that's how I was born.

  7. I had planned to say nothing further on the topic, until you replied with the above rant - which, ironically, reinforces my point. Unless you wish to reply AGAIN - which now wouldn't suprise me, dear - this will be my last word on the matter.

    It's "surprise".

Oh, and btw? You're doing a great job at being weird -without- meditation. :D Keep up the good work!

Also, that was nowhere near a rant. It was a request. I can point you in the direction of some useful online dictionaries if you need help distinguishing the two.

To those who have actually contributed posts with substance in this thread, my thanks.

Does anyone use aromatherapy in conjunction? I've used some wonderful choices in incense at times (the best stuff is kind of expensive, but so worth it. Charcoal and little "rocks" of highly scented oil.)

I've tried music before, as well, but it does nothing but distract me, so I find it easier to operate in silence.

Yeah, I burn some lavender sometimes. I have these hand tied lavender whatchamacallits I got off etsy.com, I just cant recall the word or name. They are great. A round tightly packed bunch of dried lavender your let smolder and wave around the room.

I went looking on etsy and couldnt find them, but here are some hand dipped incense that I might try...

I gotta look into that...sounds neat!

These are the kinds I like the most...resin (I'd forgot, too. lol But I googled it and found it)

I got a free sample of some frankincense resin incense last year at the ren faire and it was soooo amazing. I still have some left, actually...The only issue I have with using it is that it burns so hot you have to be extremely careful when using it.

I have this crazy good hearing so I like some white noise to shut out the world with...
I have some ambient world music on - I have CD called "tranist lounge" that has quite a few tracks that works perfectly for me, its not intrusive at all.
I used to have this wave machine that worked well, but it broke and I never replaced it.

Well, it's not just something to use when worried about stuff. Or even just because of stress. People use meditation for a variety of reasons, quite often spiritual, though my own personal sessions have been more geared toward therapy.

I can't keep busy when I'm worried about something, though. When something is on my mind really bad I find it impossible to concentrate. lol I wish I could, because I would then be very productive when upset. Instead it's generally the opposite.

Music just distracts me unless I'm working. When I'm working on a creative project I constantly have music playing, but when I meditate it just seems to pull me away..my mind hears the music and I'd rather sing along than concentrate on breathing or clearing my mind. lol

I try it again from time to time, though, with different music. I figure eventually I will find music that is conducive to meditation, I just haven't found what works for me yet.

    Exactly,
I acctually never heard of meditaion to get rid of worry.. that wouldnt work on me either:)
To me is to not spread myself to thin, refocus or regain energy and stress management.
If I get tired during work, I do take a few minutes to meditate and I do get some refocus and energy.
It also helps me with sleep as when I get too stressed, cant shut my brain off, regradless of how tired I am.. so if I meditate for a bit before bed, I find I fall asleep faster as I have now calmed down my busy brain:)

You know, I might need to try that. I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately. I go through periods of insomnia that can last for days, weeks, or even months dependent upon various things. It's like...regardless of how tired I am I'll lay there until at least 6am unable to sleep. It's one of the reasons I try to schedule classes and work at night, because if I can't sleep it won't affect either as long as neither starts til 4-6pm.

I've used meditation to help me let go of negative energies swirling about my mind. It has helped me rid myself of a lot of baggage...it's wonderful. When I was younger I felt so full of negative emotion....a lot of anger and sadness that, while it was completely founded, left me drained and lifeless a lot of the time. Now, years later, through systematic changes in my life, and lots of meditation, I'm a much happier person. It also helped me become more optimistic in outlook.

Also, like I mentioned in the first post, it helps other people, too. My own experiences never gave me as much elation as when I managed to help another with something very important to them. I just talked them through what I do myself when I meditate, and the change happened so quickly it was almost like the problem never existed. We didn't even have to try it twice...after focusing on the problem and ridding their mind of it, the way I've rid myself of so much negative emotion, the problem went away and they're much happier now. :D

I like helping people. It makes me feel great to share what wisdom I've gleaned from a hard life with others, in order to help them straighten out their own.

It helps me a lot with pain management. There are days when I wake up and my first realization, before I can even remember my own name, is that I hurt. It is really hard not to focus on how much you hurt, but learning how to divert your thoughts away from it really does help.

The times when I am having a hard time getting into neutral, the breathing really helps. It gives you something to focus, the repetition, the form, the rhythm.
