Saw this while surfing the net. Looks like the BBC are going to be airing a new IR romance drama on Sunday Night Primetime. It's airing in the UK but you maybe be able to watch it on BBC America or through BBC Iplayer. Link here http://naylandhouse.blogspot.com/2009/10/putting-small-island-on-big-screen-uk.html
QB,you are on the ball! I read about it yesterday in the Evening Standard newspaper. I hope to see it when it comes to the States. Got to get the book as well.
Is it possible to see it somewhere in the internet?? I cannot find it at all...and I love costume dramas....:smt061
Thanks for the tip QB...she looks pretty. It looks a bit dated though, I'd have preferred a more modern IR pairing like Rose/Mickey, but it should be interesting. Not a big fan of romance but I'll record it.
I remember years ago I saw on Masterpiece Theater a two part movie called A Respectable Trade. It was based on a book by Philippa Gregory of a relationship between a White woman and a African slave.
:smt009 You are so wrong for that, but ironically, I knew this post would be in here from you. :smt042
Oh, is that Ashley Walters or are my eyes deceiving me? He's so fit IR-specific dramas are kind of rare here because in every soap you'll find an interracial couple which is why it might seem 'dated.' I'll check it out though, seems interesting
The details on this drama are a bit scarce at the moment but hopefully as we get closer to the airing date more info. will be available. It's due to screen next month and the BBC usually allow people to watch shows they've missed (on tv) on the internet via the BBC Iplayer website. If your outside the UK and aren't sure if you can access BBC Iplayer, go to their website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/) and if it won't allow you watch the shows posted then it looks like you can't access it this way. You'll just have to look out for airing dates on BBC America. I look forward to seeing it. QB.
Read about this on some Carribean website. Some of those that had seen a the screening of the mini series thought that it had focused on the IR much more than the book did and gave less tie to the other plots and storylines. Funny. If it had been made in America it may have taken out the IR altogether.
JS,I give the UK a lot of props of involving IR in movies and TV. It is more better than America. When Small Island comes to DVD I will buy it.
The BBC have given an official air date for this drama - 6th December. They've also given us a promo video: http://naylandhouse.blogspot.com/2009/11/small-island-to-air-on-6th-december-bbc_24.html I'll be looking out for this. Hope those outside the UK will be able to view somehow. I hope it's well done too and not to patronising - you know how these dramas can get! QB.
