I think it was equinox who said it in another thread. But i miss the wire also

I thought this was probably one of the best dramas every produced on TV. Almost everything else seemed like garbage on TV after it. It really showed the harsh realities.

Also there was a nice IR action going on toward the later seasons.:)

The best show I have seen, also the most authentic dramatization of American inner-city life ever conceived. It was time for it to go though.

I agree Raul. My friend has all the seasons on DVD so I just borrow them from him and rewatch.

What pisses me off the most, is that it never really got recognized. Basically overlooked at the Emmys wtf??? The Sopranos, Entourage, Sex and the city, but no love for the Wire.

Was there from day one. First had all the eps and promos and specials on video tape and then got everything on DVD as soon as possible. As good as TV gets. I do miss it but I feel very lucky that HBO let it go as far as five seasons (thus allowing David Simon to complete his overall arc) whe it could have pulled the plug after season one or season three.

The Emmys? Will hate the Emmys forever because of the snub. But a Baltimore show with strong continuity, gritty urban stories and a boatload of black faces was not going to be an easy sale for the so-called liberals in the Academy. "Homicide: Life on the Streets" suffered a similiar fate. Its frustrating how a show like Mad Men, a good show btw, gets IMMEDIATE acceptance and gets all the awards while The Wire got jack shit.

LA check your library. Mine has it. I have seen it there.

It is well worth your time. It's one of the best written shows. One of the writers was a former Baltimore detective and knew the system there. He was criticized by the then Mayor of Baltimore for showing this side of their city. You can't get a more hearty anti-recommendation than that. ;) The mayor was in real life indicted for fraud, misappropriating funds and all kinds of other things. So yeah, wink wink, the corruption shown in this show is not real. :p

It was an HBO series so no doubt that is why many haven't seen it. I wonder if that is possibly in some small way the reason for the Emmy snubbing of this show. It was definitely deserving.

Episodes?? I am not that good. I think Daniels/Pearlman was season 2 or 3.

For those who are going to get into the show for the first time remember to be patient. The show, as many people have said over the years, is like a novel. It keeps building but it takes time before it really grabs you. Don't get frustrated if things feel too slow at first or if you are not exactly sure who all the characters are or what their purposes are. In the end it will all come together and make sense but you have to stick with it through those first few episodes even if you don't initially find them to your liking.

This thread is the truth. That was one of my favorite shows. That and Sopranos kept me excited about Sunday night TV.
