It's not even about the story line at all and how it relates to real life. NONE OF THAT!! Yes the team got arrested BUT Ripcord got arrested along with them. It's the fact that HE DID GET ARRESTED which counts. For what crime? Flirting with a white woman. Which was a crime here in the U.S. not to long ago. They drove that point home by letting you see Ripcord, BY HIMSELF get arrested Subliminals are aimed at your subconscious mind which looks at the whole picture and it WON'T look at details like the conscious mind does.

Hell knaw dude, and might I add it wasn't a simple peck like Ripcord got, it was a 3 minute long face eating contest. Let that happen in GI joe, and half of America would have a heart-attack.

 

Dude, GI Joe wasn't that deep. He was arrested, not for his race, but for trespassing on the White house and the destruction of French property. Not to mention that his arrests:
1. Didn't make his character negative
2. It was played down at the end
3. Wasn't a stereotype since he DID save Washington, (Jack Bauer got arrested/was a fugitive plenty of times on 24 while saving lives)
4. And most importantly on this board, he still got the girl. It didn't affect their relationship.

But I understand where you are coming from about subliminal messaging in Hollywood, but this wasn't the movie to make your point. If they were broken up BECAUSE of it, then yeah you have a point but they weren't.

Ripcord was the standard Hollywood formula of the black man sidekick/cometic character next to the serious gun-ho white main character. But UNLIKE the historic sidekicks, this one actually got the hot chick. So there.
